Match Thread v Fisher

I was apprehensive prior to the game today as I knew to win the game we would have to be alert at the back, strong in midfield and creative up front, and on recent form this was not likely.

Fisher controlled the game, had the majority of the possession and played the better football, however we dug deep, showed discipline and commitment throughout the 90 minutes (especially the last 10 when Fisher hit us with everything they had!) and an excellent team performance ensured a much needed 3 points.

Avery is improving with each match and credit to Eddie for sticking with him. The new boys look promising and Alexis was superb!

I thought we started off shaky, and the first goal came from an attack that went straight through us. (I was walking back at the time and was down at the end they scored). Not getting set up from the whistle (3rd minute)

HOWEVER....

After that though, we got our act together extremely well. Good attitude, lots of fighting to get the ball, good block defending, good counter attacks. Also good wing play and crosses, with both goals coming from such play. Good takes by Hodgey.

I thought we showed good grit and determination, which has been lacking in previous matches. Long may it last.

Lets hope that coming back from 1 down to beat the team in second place 2-1 puts the belief back.

And on a personal note, nice result at 6/1.

Just managed to log on so thought I would add my views (although they are pretty much the same as everyone elses).

The performance was excellent all over the park with EVERY player (including Avery!!!) putting in a good shift and working their nuts off. As previously stated Hodges and SUPER Michael Alexis had great games, but my MOTM personally was Mousinho who I don't think put a foot wrong and sured up our back line, making Daly and Avery look more confident. I disagree slightly with Dom where he says that Fisher controlled the game, I think it was fairly even and at times we looked better than them, especially when we attacked with pace. Their backline was flimsy, with the exception of No 4 who looked a very good player. Masters looked shaky early on, but in the second half made everything look confortable.

Support was much improved, although as Gary said, probably down to the teams performance. The crowd still need to work on being supportive when things are not going so well (and yes I include myself in that).

Finally, great to see the commitment of the lads at the end, all coming to the fans and Hodges, Ballard and Alexis looking particularly pumped up which shows that Eddie's words on Thursday have helped.

Well done lads, best performance of the season so far, lets keep it going into Tuesday and beyond.

UP THE REBELS!!!!!

Yeah absolutely. He wasn't poor by any standards just had a couple of issues with corners. His shot stopping was fine, and he made some good decisions when coming out to claim throughballs (with the obvious exception of when he carried the ball out of his area!!! ).

This is all going to sound very familiar....

Excellent performance even if at times it was backs to the wall stuff. Was particularly impressed with Alexis who had a sensational game (and presumably the kick up the [****!!****] he got on Thursday helped), good tackling, he worked hard and some awesome passing.

Hodges and Brooks were great up front. Hodges showed why he is so important to the team - he had a couple of chances and took them.

Mousinho had a very assured debut and looked quality.

But it was a team performance and that was what we wanted. Let's repay the team with a loud vocal performance from kick off on Tuesday.
