Alty

Recommended Posts

Taken from their official website :-

So, that leaves just 16 fit members of the squad to travel to Gravesend this evening, if goalkeeper Richard Acton is not counted as he is still not fully recovered from his broken foot. The 16 are: goalkeeper Coburn; defenders Aspinall, Band, Butler, Hilton, Munroe; midfielders Chalmers, Owen, Peyton, Potts, Robinson, Scott; forwards Little, Lugsden, McFadden and Wilson. Of these sixteen, eleven have started seven or fewer league games this season for Alty this season. Four have yet to start a league game for Alty this season (Aspinall, McFadden, Butler, Robinson), whilst Peyton and Lugsden have started once. Wilson and Hilton have started twice, whilst Scott has started four league games, Chalmers six and Munroe seven.

We really do need to win tomorrow.

According to the BBC though, McCarthy is unlikely to be fit due to bruised ribs, Slatter has a viral infection and Proths, of course, is suspended.

With Proths unavailable maybe we will get to see Adam Cottrell at right back.

Ross Smith has been the rock at the back so maybe a change of partner might be a good thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Luke Moore gets the nod to replace Slatter for a more attacking line up but whoever gets the nod we have plenty of strength in the midfield, lets hope they get to touch the ball rather than just watch it sail over their heads.

I am notoriously bad at predictions but tomorrow has to see us back on track with a win. 2:0 to the Fleet. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thought we looked comfortable today (and so we should given the shocking state of their squad and their players' standard on the pitch!) and the welcome return of seeing some intelligent, passing football being played too.

Good movement all round (esp. Charlie and Luke), solid displays across the midfield and aside from a couple of hairy moments later on in the second-half (following the inspired substitutions by Heathcote) a reasonably assured display by the back four (yet another combination for the season across there...!)

Pleasing performance; bloody freezing.

super game! Johnson and Moore reealy were super today, and Drury was brilliant! Great game, although Alty were rubbish..

And their Manager was giving everyone jip in the stand, he really is a [****!!****]! He completly lost interest in the game after the second goal and was too busy shouting at us lot.

9 it is - don't believe anything you read on the post-hoagy-era confguide.

In terms of chances created today, it was pretty even, but over the course of the match we did more in terms of attacking pressure, and actually took our chances, meaning we did enough to win. Alty were pretty woeful in the first-half, but caused us a few problems in the second half (e.g. Holloway's missed punch that led to Jacko clearing off the line, Holloway's fine save from Little, Little somehow stabbing wide after the mix-up between Holloway, Jacko and James Smith), meaning that the game was never really safe until right near the end. It could have been over much earlier though, but for a great save from Coburn from MacDonald, who should have done a bit better with his one-on-one chance a bit later on, and the clearance off the line from James Smith's effort.

A good team effort all in all, with everyone putting in at least satisfactory performances.

Credit to Alty for a respectable travelling support for such a long distance, especially considering they brought about as many as Halifax this season, an ex-League side.

For what they're worth, here are some video clips of the game. Charlie's goal is too dark to see properly because I had just changed batteries & the camera hadn't had time to adjust to the light.

1-0

Very nearly 2

2-0

Almost 3

Thought we were cruising it until Altrincham recovered from their manager-encouraged "the officials hate us sulk" & took control of midfield for about 20 minutes. Good job they didn't have a MacDonald up front or we'd have been sweating it out badly at the end.

A very necessary 3 points.

Very glad to get three points but unlike some of the postings above I wasn't very impressed with the performance.

Alty aren't a top team at the best of times but with the number of injuries they had we really should have won more convincingly.

Whoever said that the defence looked good yesterday obviously went to a different game to the one I saw. To give a side as poor as Alty that number of chances was awful.

Holloway looked dodgy, Jacko is better further forward, James Smith got caught a few times and takes too long on the ball, Ross Smith was fine, Gooding's distribution was awful, Johnson was ok, Saunders ok but I expect better than that from Jay, Bowry was excellent very noticeable that all of our best moves involved Bobby, Drury was anonymous for most of the game ( how on earth was he m.o.m.), Moore did ok he was unlucky not too score and there were a couple of great turns but he is only a schoolboy and is too easily outmuscled, Charlie was excellent and caused them plenty of problems he should probably have scored more than one but as he won the match for us it would be churlish to complain.

It was good to see that we played more controlled football albeit against a poor team but I don't think that peformance would be enough to beat many teams in this league.
