Thurrock 7-0 East Thurrock

I saw this on the East Thurrock forum. East Thurrock did not field a weakened team, so it seems very odd to me that they were beaten so comprehensively by a team that we beat three times last season. Is there really that much between the Conference South and the Ryman Premier?

I was very impressed with Nuneaton compared to Cirencester (I know that Conf N v SLP rather than ConfS v RymP but same difference) so yes I think it is a big gap. You could see a Conf S or N team beating a football league side but not someone from one of the premier leagues. Eastbourne gave Oxford a hard time and they are struggling in the Conf S.

Slough beat Walsall in the FA Cup last season. The problem with using cup results to weigh up the strength of leagues is that so much depends on home advantage. Chasetown held Oldham to a draw, but no one would say the Midland Alliance is in any way comparable with League 1.

I think it is better to see how promoted teams do in their new leagues. If you look at Conf South, Histon are five points off second place with two games in hand and Yeading are mid-table. So that would suggest not too much difference.
