Marks out of 10 v Dartford

Experts feel free to correct me, but this was my impression:

 

Mitten 5 - put in trouble by Bill in the second half, got out of it but was shaky for about ¼ hour afterwards. Seemed to be troubled by the stick from Darts fans.

 

Sesay 6 - was up against the best player on the pitch (Martin, no. 11). Good moving up, but struggled defensively. Left his man totally unmarked for the goal.

 

Donovan 5 - fairly solid and could turn out to be a sound partner for Bill in central defence. Some mistakes in the second half.

 

Edwards 3- sorry but Bill was beaten in the air nearly every time by their no. 9. Put goalie in trouble. Passed to the oppo several times, at least two of which could have resulted in goals. Won't want to remember this one.

 

Hilaire 5 - looked better going forwards towards the end. Was he meant to be in defence in the first half? Hard to tell. This guy could be useful playing just off the front men, getting the knock down ball etc.

 

Standen 2 - I have stuck up for him in the past, but the sending off was stupid and childish. One good defensive tackle, several poor set pieces. Temperament might be why he is playing at this level.

 

Kola 6 - strong defensively, but looked in trouble against their no. 8 and deservedly booked for bringing him down. Worth his place.

 

Keister 7 - for his second half performance. Made chances towards the end.

 

McGowan 4 - passed to the opposition too often. Got caught in possession.

 

Remy 3 - ineffective today. Only once in about 10 attempts managed to flick the ball on from a high ball forwards.

 

Amoako 6 - worked hard all match. Hit the post. Looks lively and would be more effective with better service.

 

Yiga 8 - had some good shots on goal, which is more than you can say for some other Gate forwards in the last two seasons.

 

Darts fans 9 - deducted a point for giving our keeper stick, but otherwise in good voice and a credit to their club.

 

Referee 8 - controlled the game well. Didn't try to get noticed like some others we have seen this season. Had to send Standen off, in fact it could have been a straight red.

Agree in part, although might have given Donovan a 6/7 espeically for that last ditch tackle in the box that prevented a goal. Also thought McGowan did more good than bad, maybe just lacking match practice, hasn't figured too often recently, looked like a solid midfielder at times

Anyway has Warren Ryan left us? Saw Gradley and Braithwate at the ground today but not WR. Shame if so, because he looked a match winner.

Thanks to you guys for making us so welcome and being so gracious in defeat. A bit different from the last round. As I hope you will agree, we are not a dirty side.

 

I read your ratings above with interest. It was a pretty close game and you certainly had a few chances too, but for me, the biggest difference between the teams was confidence. We are all on a high, but your guys seem to be suffering from a severe lack of self-belief. Also, I think our left winger (Dave Martin) gave your right back a torrid time, especially in the first half. It didn't surprise me that this is where our goal came from.

 

Anyway. Thanks for your hospitality. Good luck in the league, hope things turn around for you soon.

Yes you have made a very good point about confidence Spike. Most of our players are new this season and have not experienced the collective high of winning. We've got a good board and management, and a brilliant set of fans, so we are not too downhearted.

What came of this talk of a statement by MFC? Was it all a joke or did it really happen?

Nothing was said apparently so I dont know where Dave got that from unless it was decided not to make a statement after all. What it was about,if ever there was one,is not known by anyone I have spoken to.Maybe whatever it was has been rescheduled for a more appropiate time. Seems to me though that one wasnt due to be made anyway.Maybe Dave(misa) can tell us more seeing as though it was he who started this.
