Town 1 Redbridge 1

lovely stuff

We were robbed! The first half was stagnant but we shaded the second half and if anyone can tell me why our second disallowed goal didn't stand then please speak up. I do feel that the combination of Baldwin and Woodward on the left was missed. Still, we can beat Redbridge in the replay on Tuesday. They had their chances but are nothing to be frightened of.

COME ON TOWN!!

Enfield Town 3 Redbridge 1 unless you were the ref and then it was 1 - 1.

Hall, Allen, Penn, Gant, Magona, Woodward, Negus, Hall, Paul, Hammatt, Morgan, Hal, Smith, Brotherton, Ritchie, Baldwin

Gate 268

The early play tended to be corner to corner stuff with Redbridge winning two early corners. Russell Peen received a very late tackle and was booked for his troubles. It was a nasty tackle and could have ended his career. David Allen tackled back well. The funniest sight of the first half Adam Gant on his hands and knees for a few seconds before he was required to head the ball out. Brain Hammatt set up a lovely chance for Trevor Paul to pull just wide. David Allen had a shot saved by the keeper after a lovely solo run. Russell Penn shot just wide. Trevor Paul headed just over from a free-kick. Adam Gant pulled off a critical tackle. At the other end Chopper made a one handed palmed save. Finally on 42 minutes a corner comes in and Dave Whatley clinically beat Chopper fair and square. 0 – 1. Town weren’t playing brilliantly but didn’t deserve to go one down at this point. On 43 minutes Johnny Morgan was swapped out for Niall Ritchie. Best chance of the first half fell to Russell Penn whose flick on was deflected by a defender only for the keeper to save it from going in.

Second half and Matty Negus shot just wide from the free kick. Russell Penn shot high and wide. Russell Penn and Trevor Paul link up well fro a run that is encouraged away.

Bryan Hammatt was fouled in the box no penalty. Trevor Paul just missed connecting with a flying header. That would have been some goal had he connected. Keiron Woodward just missed as the Keeper saved his near post shot. Trevor Paul shot wide. Chopper was forced to save at full stretch. Finally Town scored a fair and square goal which O’Neill missed completely and both he and Hammatt watch it bounce into his goal. Ref blowed – no goal. Why? Even Redbridge fans were at a loss as to why it was not good. O’Neill rolled around on the floor and feigned injury. Negus off Lee Smith on. Trevor Paul then tried to walk the ball into the net in a one on one noop.

Town were beginning to feel it wasn’t our night when a defender decided to climb all over Bryan Hammatts back in the box. Penalty Rudi Hall slotted home 1 – 1. Town then scored again and this one was disallowed too.

It was one of those matches when Town outplayed a lacklustre team and yet the score-line did not reflect the quality. Alan Fenn will be taking the majority of his team from Ilford to Redbridge as there wasn’t much out there worth keeping on his side. So it is back to Oakside let’s hope the ref gets the result right the next time!

After the last three games which had all been won so did I.
Woody is always a threat going forward.

As for the two disallowed goals, the first one was definatly a foul on the keeper but there was nothing wrong with Hammets header for the 2nd.
The ref was terrible, so many wrong decisions, in the 2nd half he was no more than 6 feet from a challenge where the ball went off a defender for a corner but he tried to give a goal kick only to change his mind when the lino flagged for a corner!

They say it is a funny old game....and it is. It is also about opinions.
In my opinion the second "goal" was not a foul, at least not by Town. The 5 shoved Hammett into the keeper. Goal in my book.
As for the third "goal" Hammett pushed the defender in the back. No goal.
As for the Baldwin / Woodward combo, I would keep THEM BOTH in and Morgan out.
As for the Ref..............he was awfull !!
Nuff said, except. Will he be there Tuesday ? Please God NO !! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" />
