Despite a few of us there today. Twas a quiet Fleet crowd. Which was probably due the long unexpected f'ing walk up the hill to get in, as that would knacker out the fittest amongst us.

126 of us which is a very poor for a relatively local fixture.

Quiet??? We sang our hearts out under the covered stand!

I think we were aided by the stand's roof being so high and rounded thoguh.

No he didn't. What cost us the game was the central defences total inabilty to mark Tim Sills.

We all knew where the ball was going and he still got the first like he did on 99% of the time.

We looked a look sounder at the back with Gooding there than we did with Protheroe.

Gooding's foul in a wide position didn't help, but the crux is, as you quite rightly say, the fact that Sills consistently had the beating of us in the air. In fact, he could well have punished us sooner in the second half, having had a couple of half-decent headed chances go just over.

If Mr. Lee hadn't sent provs off we would've won it. Aldershot should be packing their bags for a trip to eastbourne quite soon.

Mr Lee may be a prat but he does get some decisions right. Shouldn't your post read if Proth's hadn't got himself sent off?

It's reminiscent of the classic David Brent-ism 'if my auntie had 'b*ll***s, she'd be my uncle'.

We possibly merited a draw yesterday, but if either side deserved the three points, it was the Shots. A strange game that probably wasn't worth the five goals, given that the only strenuous save either 'keeper had to make was Bull's second half block from Sodje.

The usual solid performances from Jay and Jacko, amongst others, yesterday, and definitely an improvement on the previous three games. But as Wayne says, the Alty match is now a biggie.

Particularly galling was hearing the announcer call us 'Gravesend United' at the end of the game (admittedly, he did pop out of his decades-long timewarp and corrected himself), and then seeing the programme call us 'Gravesend and North Fleet' about 90% of the time the club name was mentioned.

OK, so quoting oneself is pretty sad. But just to add that this match is particularly significant considering that unlike last season there are no sides considerably worse than the rest in the Conference. Consequently, although we are mid-table, we're only five points off the bottom now.

is it sad to quote someone quoting himself quoting me...

Anyway, Alty is a massive game, and will give us an indication of how the season will pan out.

Whilst it would be good for us to get 3 points for the current campaign it will also go some way to erasing a bad childhood memory of Alty winning the ( I think ) inaugral Gola Alliance league at our place.

Our record against Alty at this level is pretty poor, about time for a change.

Correct me If I'm wrong but this was said about the stevenage game?

If these predictions were anything to go by the future's not looking bright.

I hope YOUR quote is correct, AND we win on Saturday!

Dont think so...

There is a big difference between the 2 games. Alty will be strugglers this year by the looks of it, which means theres extra importance that you pick up 3 points at home against them. especially as this year , unlike the last few there are no guaranteed whipping boys.

I think our main aim this year and sign of success , (just like the other seasons) is staying up and not going bankrupt.

I leave the dreaming of play offs to others.

Up the Fleet.

After mentioning about the game against Alty in the inaugral alliance season, it got me thinking. Apart from us and Alty only one other club from the top echelon of non league footie back in them heady days are still plying their trade in the same division. Albeit all 3 of us have taken sabbaticals.

Any takers ?

Perhaps Daish should bring a 'back to basics' element into training sessions??

Remind the players that football is a game played between two teams of 11 players and that each match lasts for a minimum of 90 minutes.

Perhaps that way the team may actually finish a game will a full complement of players still on the pitch and be aware that they have to defend right up until the referee blows the final whistle?

Whilst I was not there on Saturday, I cannot believe that, as a near professional club, we are still unable to shut-down a game after pulling it back to 2-2 with just 4 minutes or so to go. Almost another Bishops Stortford by the looks of it?

So John Major will be replacing Alan Kimble as assistant then.

On the flipside, of course, it could be said the team did well to only be beaten in the last minute, having played an hour with ten men. Point taken, though (re. comments elsewhere about Sills' constant victories over us in the air).
