Prediction League, directions to Sudbury (see away travel guide). Bishops Stortford will be done tomorrow (work permitting) but here are the directions as in the programme:

Take the M25 east to junction 27 and go north on the M11 untl you reach junction 8, the Bishop's Stortford/Stanstead Airport exit. turn left at the end of the slip road and then left at the first roundabout and the ground is down the next turning on the right (you can see it from the roundabout). Alternatively, take the A414 to hertford, pick-up the A10 north and then turn right onto the A120 at Puckeridge towards Bishops Stortford. Go left onto the bypass when you reach Stortford and head towards the M11, and after a couple of miles you will see the ground on your right just before a roundabout. Take the last exit and turn right.

What a useful chap to have around, you are, Rob. Thanks for that.

Would you mind confirming that the next home game is the re-arranged League fixture against Braintree on Saturday, November 2nd? [That presumes that there is no cup replay against Sudbury, of course.]

Many thanks in anticipation.

Morning AFF. yes, the next home fixture is indeed Braintree at home on the 2nd November, barring any replays against Suddo.

We shall also be putting a rocket up Sutton at their place on November 5th, kick-off 7.30 pm (something about local residents, noise etc). I'll make sure the fixture list is up to date.

Hi Rob.

I'm delighted that you and Webbo were able to be accommodated by Braintree and that the League sanctioned the change of date of the fixture as the two of you had a free Saturday.

Now Rob. You know a little bit about this technology lark. The next time you two mess around with the fixtures [and I have no problem with that, by the way], in addition to the match officials, Chairman, Board, Managers, players, James & Vickie, and the tea-bar people, do you think that you could do an E-mail to that Lee Wood chap so that he can change the fixtures page in the programme?

That would be so helpful.

Hi Rob.

You know the double page spread towards the back of the matchday programme "Ryman League Round-up". I have a hunch that the chap who get's £50,000 a year to ghost write the Managers Notes in the programme doesn't actually write that. I think that it's snipped and glued from some web-site somewhere.

You are a bit of a surfer person. Do you know the site from which it is taken?

In some other programmes, I have seen a brief precis of other results, managerial changes and stuff in a few sentences. Clearly someone has to write it [and I have someone in mind, someone who works for a tad less than £50K, too] but something along those lines could cut the current two pages to one and leave room for something else, and, no, I don't have in mind a third interview with The Duo to get their further, considered views on the last match.

The results bit could be put together from NLP but where does the other information come from? And midweek news, too?

Any thoughts?

I reckon this is what you're looking for, AFF.

Expect to see some, if not all, of this in next Tuesday's programme (St Albans vs Sudbury FAC4q replay)

Saturday's Headlines - 19th October 2002

*

Honours even in top of table clash

In a tense Premier Division top of the table clash between St Albans City and Billericay Town, it took until the 72nd minute to break the deadlock. City's Juan-Mequel de Souza found the net - but just nine minutes later DJ Campbell equalised for Town to leave the top of the table unchanged. City head the field by two points from Billericay.

*

Shots lose ground

Aldershot Town missed out on the chance to go top of the table after losing 2-1 at home to Chesham United. The visitors to the Recreation Ground took the lead in the first half courtesy of Julian Capone. Nicholas Roddis levelled with 15 minutes to go, but Darran Hay was on hand to win the game for Chesham and inflict the Shots' third successive defeat.

*

Eagles climb

Bedford Town moved up the table after winning 2-0 at high flying Hendon. Robert Miller and Kevin Slinn scored their goals in the first half.

*

First win in four for Enfield

Goals in the first half from Demba Traore and Fabian Forde saw Enfield beat fellow strugglers Hampton & Richmond Borough.

*

Northwood lose out to promotion rivals

Division One North leaders Northwood suffered their first home league defeat of the season as they went down 4-1 to Harlow Town. David Sargent scored Northwood's consolation goal in the final minute after strikes from Gary Wraight, Alex Martin and a brace from Nick Cowley had put the visitors in control.

*

Stones close gap

Wealdstone narrowed the gap on the Division One North leaders to two points, and with a game in hand, after winning 4-0 at home to Hertford Town. Mick Swaysland gave them an early lead, but then three goals in as many minutes in the closing stages underlined the win.

Carshalton grab away draw

An 85th minute Ricardo Harvey equaliser secured a point for Division One South leaders Carshalton Athletic at Egham Town. Earlier the home side had taken the lead through Andrew Dugdale.

AFF

I suspect there is a Ryman League weekly newsletter that is emailed to all full and associate members which is basically what's on the website at www.isthmian.co.uk. I did notice also there is a vacancy for Secretary at Turvey Towers, I wonder what they're paying? And who is this Juan-Mequel de Souza, do they mean Migsy?

There is, and has been, a newsletter for years. Given though that it's only circulated to clubs, and given that not everyone's on the web - it would be interesting to know how many programme purchasers are, it may inform what's included - I don't think it's unreasonable to reproduce it in the programme as a summary of latest news?

May see everyone tonight if I can negotiate my way from the station to the ground.

Err....errr....errrr....

It,s just like buses. You wait for two hours and then 3 come along.

CZ. Very helpful, thanks. That's exactly the thing that I had in mind. Is that the same as the site that Rob has mentioned?

Herts [£50K] blue. [sigh.]

There are 14 pages in the current matchday programme available to 'change' on a weekly basis, the remainder 'constant' with advertisements. Of those 14, 2 are currently used for The Chairman and The Duos contributions. The double in the middle is for results and fixtures. One is for the chap who used to drive the red tractor, and one for the captain/player interview. That leaves 8. 2 are for 'The Visitors, one for 'They also wear the colours, and one for the player sponsorship page. One for The Supporters Club. One has carried the quiz, today's other fixtures etc.

That leaves 2. At present, they carry "Ryman Round Up".

From your posting, you suggest that it is "not unreasonable" for the extract from The Bulletin [or whatever it is] to be reproduced in our matchday programme. As a principle, I agree. However, last weeks carried the exciting news that Children under 12 will be allowed free entry to the forthcoming Kingstonian home game with Stortford, and that Dulwich Hamlet's recent midweek game was sponsored by the local cricket club, and that Hornchurch are eagerly awaiting the return of 4 injured players.

Now ask me again.

The article also carried details and stats of the best supprted non-league team 'on the road' which was interesting beyond results, for example.

The point is, hb, I was musing that if someone could precis The Bulletin from two pages to one [ and with all due respect to K's, Dulwich and Hornchurch, they would not make my final cut], that would free one page of our programme for something else. Would you agree with that, as a principle?

Now, on a serious note, not all of my ideas are good ones, and if you don't agree with that, then I'll say no more, and you can get on with it, or someone else can have a go.

Keep up the good work, hb.

Dangerous ground that, Tony Lazarou.

It's a a short step from that to breaking away and forming a new club to play in the Essex Senior League. Not that you would have any experience of that, of course.

No. Let's wait a while for a response to that last posting from that Herts Blue chap.

Did you notice that Stortford have already stolen my idea for their matchday programme? They have edited The Bulletin down to one page. K's, Dulwich and Hornchurch didn't make their final cut, either. They will be hearing from my solicitors.
