WEFC first team and reserves have played common opposition once this season, because Redbridge played pretty much their first team against WEFC reserves in the reserve cup competition on 12 October at Stag Meadow. The result? 5-1 to Redbridge. The first team played a similar Redbridge side away on 27 August in the league and drew 1-1.

So, on the only occasion the two WEFC teams have played similar opposition this season, the first team significantly outperformed their junior counterparts. Conclusion? I'd sooner draw away than be thrashed at home.

yeah good point, but thats not what im sayin,

i dont expect all the reserves to play just a few of them who are performing better at the mo still with senior players in there, likes of coyne, kersey, jarvo, drake, wallace and a few more with some of the reserves at least the fans will no that there working hard and want to wear the windsor shirt.

and just so you no if you read the match report against redbridge the reserves lost two of the centre backs through injury (tom woodcraft and richard sanford) who have been outstanding for them of late and also were suffering with injuries in midfield so it wasnt even a full strength reserves.

It's a bit simplistic of course to suggest that all ressies can step up into first team and impress week in and week out. The step up is a massive one. Anyone who saw the ressie game on Wednesday will have seen that the first teamers lacked either attitude or quality, or both ! Adam Wallace who was excellent, is excused from these accusations. However, just because the first team may not be good enough, it doesn't mean that the ressies are ready. Will Dunlop has been a big find this season, but he has made mistakes in games because he is young and inexperienced. He will make more mistakes too because he is still learning at this new level. If Jarvo; Kersey; etc look after him then Will is the future of WEFC. He's a capable player and his attitude is first class. Bear in mind, he hasn't actually played in his own position yet; he is an awesome centre-back. WEFC just need to find more like him. That's what Gary and Eugene are trying to do, but it takes time. There are a few others in the ressies who have got a chance, but not yet. What they do is test themselves and learn in the ressies against opposition who might have a few first teamers in. That's not the same as playing against a complete first team with bags of ability and experience. WEFC have to be patient with young players. What the club needs now is better attitude from its existing squad, or a bunch of new players. It's easy to blame Dave Carroll, but the players he has have let him down and it's not easy for him to get new experienced players to the club. Why would they want to come to a struggling side? I say choose the ones who have shown that they are good enough and have the right attitude : Drake; Jarvis; Kersey; Coyne; Wallace; Dunlop; maybe Skinner, and build the side around them. Easy from the touchline isn't it !

It's not appropriate to comment that most of the reserves play football on a Saturday 'for fun'. Some of these lads are very serious about playing football at a high level, and I think they would give 'their all' to be given a chance.
