My questions answered

after the st albans game i managed to get a chat with some of the players and coaching staff and put a few questions which had come up on the web site recently. these are the replies i got (given that i had had a few pints by then)

1) Joe Baker

it was felt that joe had not been playing to the best of his ability of late and that on occasions had not put maximum effort in. it was felt that it was in the best interests of both joe and of our TEAM that joe left. we got a "good deal" for joe......

i know there are differing opinions on this one but personally i agree completely with the above.

2) Juho Rantala

the reason that juho currently isnt playing is purely down to selection. it is felt that we have better players available in the position currently. juho was praised for his excellent attitude and committment in training.

personally i'd have him in the side but ask an honest question get an honest answer.

3) Three at the back

it was felt that playing three at the back was keeping us defensively sound and that we were still creating chances up front and down the flanks. the formation is not set in stone and it was felt that if we are not offering enough going forward we would easily be able to change back to a four.

i would be interested to compare our defensive record pre purfleet (back 4) and purfleet and beyond (back 3) - hopefully one of our boffins will do this. my own opinion is that we r better with a back four but its very difficult to complain about 2nd place in the league!!!!!

i hope ive managed to correctly interpret what was said and think the moral of the story is if you have a question/issue raise it with one of the staff in a reasonable way and you will get a reasonable reply.

Hmmmmm. Difficult to compare the records. With a back 4 we conceded 4 goals in 12 games - with a back 3 we have conceded 4 in 6. But against that you have to consider that since switching to a 3 we have played Kingstonian, Purfleet and St. Albans who are all in the top 6.

Good to hear the clubs view on Joe baker, i must admit i agree with them, Joe had a great season a while back but you cant keep a player based on previous displays. I also would liketo know how much we got for Joe. I mentioned this previously and i think Simon quite rightly pointed out that most of our transfer coming and going dont command a fee, but Joe was on a contract and surely the paying supporters of the club have a right to know how much we got. With DJ on loan did we get enough from selling Joe to buy DJ?

the Rantala one, well i like most think he is worth a place and still think the signing of Ole was not needed. I hope for Juho's sake he gets an opportunity at some point to really stake a claim for a starting role. To not even be a named sub on sat must be hard for him take.

3 at the back. we may well be second in the league but JJ seems much busier than when it was a back four. Its working but doenst look as solid as the four.

I have a question. Its been mentioned that Fewings hasnt been fully fit. Im sure ive heard this since he signed. What is the injury he has or is he just struggling for match fitness?

and anothoer one: st albans kit maker is the same as ours and on sat they took delivery of their first batch of shirts to sell on to the fans, anyone know when we can buy our kit?

Fewings - Picked up an ankle injury against Kingstonian - apparently is now fit to play.

Kits - There is a new sponsor on the way. The current (icis) kit is a stop gap to cover the first few months of the season until the new sponsorship deal starts in January. The new design kit will hopefully be available from the club shop in the run up to Christmas.
