Saints 5, Ding-dong 2

AFF

Recommended Posts

This was a strange one. 4 changes from Saturday. A seat on the bench for Clarke, Roddis, Barnett and Graham. Patrick in at centre back, Hakim and Martin up front. Allman to right-back, Davis in midfield alongside Seeby.

Hankin scored from a free-kick on 7, then Davis scored 2 within a couple of minutes and we were 3-0 up after 17. They hadn't got off the coach apart from 'keeper Delroy Preddie, and Saints players have enjoyed playing against Delroy for a lot of years.

A somewhat nondescript remainder of the first half. For the last 5 minutes, we seemed to be experimenting with just one up front which was a little bizarre to me, but then, I don't know anything about football. Chris Seeby had a good 'un.

[in the] Second half, we started positively, and Tom Davis completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot on around 50 or so.

They then had a player sent off for a second yellow and we seemed to think that safety was the best policy, playing just Simon up front which was even more bizarre.

Colin Lippiatt knows more about football than I ever will so you could ask him why he brought Allman off for Roddis, with Seeby coming back to right-back. We appeared to be playing with one man up front and I just didn't get that.

A mix-up on the left and they scored. a few minutes later, after a Groundhog Day mix-up on the left, they scored again. Bazza was not happy [i have a hunch that he gets a two and sixpence bonus for a clean sheet.]

Martin scored. 5-2. Thanks very much.

A little surreal, tonight. Att: 331.

You have obviously read my very brief account of last night's match and you have seen something that I can't, Dan. Where is the reference to a table-topping, scintillating, champagne-fest of football of the highest quality that no-one could live with which will see us playing in the Champions League within 6 seasons?

You're going to be late for school, drummer-boy.

I enjoyed the game, even though we didn't play as well as we can do, you can't really argue with a 5-2 win. However, I was a bit worried about how easy Yeading scored their two goals. I know we were 5, then 4, goals up, but those two goals were a result of shocking defending. A bit embarassing really! Is Scott Cousins back for the Maidenhead game - anyone know? We could have easily scored 2-3 more goals if we hadn't of been so over-elaborate in front of goals in the last 20 mins. Nevermind, one can't be greedy. Well done saints!!!

I see that we have moved up to second now, and that we along with leaders, Lewes and third place Welling, all have 28 points. I also see that Maidenhead got stuffed 8-1 last night off Bognor. I'm looking forward to another win on Saturday!

Hi Zag. No, don't put Scott down in the Prediction League as scorer of the first goal at Maidenhead as he is not available for selection.

Last night was Colin Lippiatt's 50th game at the helm and takes his average points per game to 1.75.

Another interesting statistic is that last night, Tom Davis scored more goals in about an hour [3] than he had in his previous 40 games [2].

Cousins has one more game to go, I believe.

I liked the idea of three 'proper' midfielders with Matty given licence to roam from wing to wing. Certainly seemed to confuse Ding as to who they were meant to mark. Cracknell also had a better game than previously.

Defensively I still believe Ada and Barnett is the best central partnership, which leaves a problem as to where to play Hankin. Can he play left-back?

Looking forward to Maidenhead now, should be a good day out if nothing else.

Zag, we were 5-0 up before they scored

It seems that Colin played the Chelsea formation 4-3-2-1. the front line had Martin alone with Hakim and Hann supporting from deep!

Glad to have been of assistance

Thanks for that, Rob2.

Highly paid professional athletes. Get 'em in every morning for a 7 mile run. Take the keys to the club Ferrari back and get him to jog to t'Park for training and on matchdays. He should treat his body like a temple, not Disneyland.

Cramp.

Hi Nos.

Yep to those. Tom Davis was very sharp on Tuesday. He has talent, of that there's never been any doubt. We need him at his best. If it weren't for the hat-trick, Chris would have been my MotM on his first half display.
