Interesting Attendance Booster from Crawley

Sounds like a good idea and (mostly) well received by Crawley fans.

I am sure if we did something similar we would have a few people moaning about it too.

Of course we already get one free ticket and one half price ticket but targetting a specific game, particularly one that the home team has a pretty good chance of winning makes a lot of sense.

That's a bit of a drastic scheme, though, which could quite easily lose money.

Of course any genuine attempt to increase attendances is in principle admirable, but mediation is required too.

Stupid idea by Crawley as far as I'm concerned !

If we did it at Stonebridge Road I'd give the 4 free tickets to my 4 mates who usually pay to get in and thus provide a net loss of £48 for the club !

The same thing happens with the School tickets - I know several people who normally pay for their boys to come in and on the free school days it just means they come in for free and again the club loses money.

Yes but how many more people especially kids were at the Steveange match? A hell of a lot, indicationg the schools scheme is working.

The only problem is that is was a bad game for us and i doubt many of them will be returning again

Based on the truth of your second sentence, I'm not sure how you can know the scheme is 'working'.

Actually there where 239 more at the Stevenage game than the previous home match and since Stevenage brought roughly 250 more fans than York that isn't terribly impressive.
Not hugely surprising as the match took place only 8 days after the scheme was announced, I wonder how many of the 8,500 free tickets where used at the turnstiles?
As to whether the scheme is a success or not don't you think it might be just a little early to judge?

The trouble is the way that the performances are deteriorating each week, it won't be long before the attendances are made-up entirely of kids who have got in for free,

It's working in the sense that we are attracting pottential customers, but as I said, thats the easy part... the hard part is keeping them, and that's down to performances.

Maybe you couldn't tell the difference of statistics but did you not notice how many kids there were there? They were chanting in the seats, and many were situated next to them.

I don't look at statistics, I trust my eyes. Maybe my eyes have decieved me.

Don't they also run a scheme where under 13's pay a tenner to join the supporters club, but then get in free to all home games ?

Forgot to add for their tenner they also get a scarf to keep them warm whilst they are attending the games during the winter months.
How thoughtful.

Cunning plan that - enabling crawley to get more money then they would've as the kids parents have to pay.

Very roughly, maybe - looked like about 100-150 more to me.

That said, your point about the increased attendance for the Stevenage game not being as impressive as it first appears remains valid.
