Just what was happening at half time to warrant supporters from all corners of the ground rushing to their legally parked cars?

Everyone in Goldsdown road who had a wheel in the pavement got tickets.

So they were illegally parked.

Typical Guardian/Independant reading WET.

Hope you or your family never need an ambulance in Enfield, because the down side to all us residents parking LEGALLY, will unfortunatly mean it probably won't be able to reach you in good time.

People don't WANT to park half on the kerb. They do so as a courtesy , to allow other road-users easy access to pass.

Do they have a common-sence section in The Indy? Did you say the same thing to the striking miners in the 80's when they complained of injustice. ''So you were breaking the law ?''

PS. The railings are at least 4 feet from the road on the A10,so unless they were using spray cans,i very much doubt there was any change of flicking paint at a car, if they tried.

I can just see the headline in The Gazette this week. 'Shock horror.Anti-car Left-winger condones Council policy of harassment of motorists.'

Typical blinkered motorist. If you can't park somewhere without leaving room for others you shouldn't be parking there. If it's causing an obstruction - either on the pavement or the road - it's NOT legal. Quite simple really.

And what about the visually impaired, the wheelchair users, parents with buggies etc who have to dodge round the cars on the pavements? Or don't they count because they don't have cars?

You are Jeremy Clarkson and I clain my five pounds

The strike wasn't a wise topic of conversation in Frickley. I'm not that daft, you know.

So parking in your own road is illegal.Parking half on the pavement in your own road is illegal.

And its the same situation in every road for miles around.

As i've said many times. The Hard-Left don't care about the 'majority' or the average man on the street. They only care about select goups and special causes that meet their narrow blinkered criteria. The general public can go spin,as far as they are concerned.

A governments jobs (and that of local councils) should be to make life better and easier for its people.

Perhaps the best way around the problem is to get the local emergency services to help change the parking laws in your road?

OK, but who are the Hard-Left? Certainly not Mr Bliar. Also, given that we have a Labour Government and a Conservative Council, who's fault does this parking ticket thread hang with?

There is a Labour council in the Enfield North area. Only Southgate is Tory.

Yes Blair is a moderate (but still money grabbing) lefty. The main problem in society today is the way the Guardianista have infiltrated all forms of public life and dicision making, from local councils, magistrates courts, the civil service, social services..You name it.They hold the minority view but are dictating public policy on everything that effects our lives, and look at the mess the country is in at present.Violent crime and anti-social behaviour out of control.Quality of life in general being eroded away.

Whos says THEY don't have cars as well.Do you want the women with her buggy to not be able to park in her own street, forcing her to walk half a mile in order to get her children to her car.A lot of wheelchair users have cars.

OK. lets be sensible.Ticket cars that are blocking those groups you mentioned, but show common sence and do NOT ticket cars that are leaving plenty of room for pedestrians to pass.Or is that to taxing on the brain for the money grabbing private mercenaries that patrol the boroughs streets.

10 traffic wardens on the streets at any time, for every police officer. Makes you proud to be British, doesn't it.

So who repairs the damge to the kerbs and pavements that are not designed to vehicular standards?

As far as I am aware it is illegal to park on any pavement, whether it is in "your own street" or not, unless there are signs saying you can and those little dotted white lines.

As a metter of interest, is there no longer any parking on the Downs or on the lane thing down the back of the houses off to the right of the Brimmo car park? There used to be so many spaces available I don't see why anyone would have to park in the street, which we were asked not to so when we formed the club.

No,by and large the roads were originally designed for horse and carts.Cars were not really thought of when road widths were calculated. How about the council accessing local roads to see if it possible to widen them by a foot or so either side and STILL have pavements wide enough for pedestrians.Would'nt hurt to survey each road to judge each roads viablilty.Slightly wider roads would negate the need to park on the pavement. Thus allowing traffic to pass and meaning that kerb-sides wern't damanged.Even if 30% of roads could benifit from this, it would be a good move.

I think w're all aware of the law.Its the LAW we are moaning about! Who decides if white lines are painted? A bloody council jobsworth.Do kerbs with white dotted lines not get damaged? How many kerbs could be designed for car use,if money was spent on that ,rather than trying to impeed traffic by putting in highly expensive (and most of the time unnecessary) car damaging obsticle courses, that are traffic humps, road calming islands and contraflows.Thats what i'm saying. If a car hating, Guardian reading, bycicle clipped council employee is given the job of tranport and roads for few years at local concil level, they fill the boroughs streets with humps and obsticles that will stay there for ever,as it will be too expensive to remove.AND implement initatives to victimise the beleagered motorist even further.like zero tollerance to trying to park a car.

Isn't this law affecting the poorer residents of Enfield, arn't the councuil taking money off the less well off, because all those rich enough to have their own garage and driveway, don't have the threat of being victimised?

The very reason a lot of people parked in the street, was the very muddy condition of the Downs. If you've had the experience of being unable to leave a ground because the car park had become a muddy quagmire (remember Purfleet?), then it was understandable that some people were wary of using the Downs.
