Ground Improvements

Recommended Posts

I see the question of getting the ground up to league standard has raised it's head again. (See the Meridian thread)

We are still waiting for the official details from the ground grading committee, but I have spoken to Brian about this, and he says that in broad terms we know what has to be done, and that we can have it done by 1st April if we need to.

Will we get a roof at the "car park" end when these improvements are carried out?The fact that this end has no roof results in a loss of atmosphere, to get this atmosphere(e.g. agaisnt scarborough) we have to stay at the end with the away fans which as you may rememeber caused its own problems. Im sure the fans would willingly donate some money to the cause if it helped us have a roof over our heads!

alfie -- Get back to running your cornershop

The first thing about being a league club, is that we have to treat away fans as 2nd class citizens. ( If we dont do that they will see staight thru' us, and realise we are only a part time club doing good)

Therefore please keep the Swanscombe End uncovered, and may it rain on all our segregated games.

As a shareholder I scoff at the idea of spending money on people who only attend Stonebridge Road once a season..

Hear hear Wayne. The time for being Good Samaritans is long gone. Pen 'em all in at the uncovered end and maybe arrange for a permanent cloud of smog and rain to be sent over from the big chimneys. Moreover, if the firemen are on strike, we could pay them to spray away fans with water cannon.

Next Saturday would be a good time for a 'trial run'... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cool_shades.gif" alt="" />

i agree that they are indeed "2nd class citizens"(and in virtually all matches northern bas**rds) but you may have noticed much of the fleet crowd switches ends so they are behind the goal when they score, i want to be behind the goal when they score but stay at the plough end where the drummer is, im sure these fans would like to see the goals aswell and would willingly move IF there was atmosphere at the other end, which requires at roof, if you want to treat them as "2nd class citizens" im sure i could knock up a cage for them in my workshop......(that one's going out for Wobbly Wayne).

The longer we stay up in the conference the more that changing ends at half time will fall away.

Our crowds will rise and couple that with 2 clubs coming down from the League each year, the potential for more segregated games will rise.

as far as I am aware, covered ends for away supporters is not League criteria.

But having more seats , non wooden stands, better terracing , better segregation and decent roofs that are not rust buckets above the already roofed terraces are.

Lets get our priorities right.

More and more people are already staying put at the Bar end, and its a trend that I think will continue.

You are guessing now. The seats and the segregation are almost certainly correct, the roofs probably not part of the criteria and the stand is OK as it is.

And quite right too. We are making an awesome amount of noise under the roof and you still have a good view of the other end. i for 1 will be staying there both halves. Come on you reds.
