In defence of the pony tailed one

Being a goalkeeper who's had to come up with his fair share of excuses over the years (including being beaten by a 35 yard free kick at Stonebridge Road!!!), I thought it was a bit unfair of messrs, Hansen et al to blame the corner kick goal on Seaman's ageing legs. Robinson or James would have got nowhere near it either from where he was standing.

Out of position, yes. Ageing leg being unable to back track, never in a million years.

Ah but nobody else would have stood there. Anyway whatever the reason the goal was down to him and I think that could be the end of a long and at times distinguished career.

PS Does anyone know if they have shipped in the real ale that was promised. If they have I'll have a pint with you next Saturday.

Having been a keeper for 20 years, some of the most important rules for defending corners are 1) have a big bloke on the front post, 2) If you have a man on the far post - he should be big as well. Finally and most importantly the keeper starts at the far post as it is easier to collect/punch the ball moving forward as it allows extra spring in your jump.

Clearly Mr Semen failed on all counts. Good luck to the Macedonians for being able to lob semen from all angles!!!

Totally agree with the positioning issue Gary. Old spunky does have a tendency to creep forward on corners. I wonder if he would have saved that bullet header against Finland in the WC qualifer at Anfield if he'd not done just that though?

For me Sol Campbell's attempted clearance was as much of a howler, whilst Paul Scholes was picking his nose letting the midfielder who scored stand on the edge of the box unmarked. Much the same as the Swede's goal in the world cup.

It's a nightmare being a keeper at times....

Dear Chatham Gary,

Not wishing to turn this into an off shoot of friends reunited but if you are Gary P. I remember you keeping goal at school which was more than twenty years ago.

All the best.

I agree with Searlo, only non goalkeepers blame Seaman for the goal on Wednesday. James , Robinson and even our own Wilko would have let it in due to the p**s poor defending of the far post by that ginger manc tw*t.

Seamans turn is up ( If only there was someone to step up ( searlo ? even at 36 you are better than most of the contenders !!)

But those who castigate him for Wednesdays goal, are like sheep following the medias witch hunt.

Makes me think even more that Wilko is our man of the season so far.

Further to Andrew Ch, - yes I am, and don't you think this is the best fleet team since those heady days back at Riverview in 1968. I saw my first game then one foggy November evening, lost 0 - 5 to Ramsgate and have been hooked ever since.

I learned my goalkeeping skills from the Tubby Morton goalkeeping handbook in the Roy of the Rovers Christmas Annual 1968. If it wasn't so valuable I'd lend it to Mr Semen !!

And yes , even that book says keepers should stand at the far post for corners !!!!
