As he is non-contract (outside the transfer window), it's difficult to see how they could expect to receive anything.

Yeh, as far as I know the only way we can currently sign players is if they're free agents. And if they're free agents they're not attatched to clubs, so therefore Cambridge had no ownership over him when we signed him. Compensation can only be given when a player is signed directly from a club I think, such as from bosman deals.

It looks like Adam will be joining the mighty Cedric Anselin, Wes Daly, Derek Bryan, Dwayne Plummer etc. etc. in the ranks of Fleet one-game wonders:

We sign a player we later learn that his old club let him go by some sort of mistake then we find out that he has moved to another club. Very strange.

 

Although I am just happy that we haven't wasted £15,000,000 on Juan Sebastian Veron.
