Harris' goal against Walsall was just featured on a clip about Merthyr on sky sports news - seeing that goal and the crowds reaction brought back some great memories.

On 5-Live tonight there must have been three or four mentions of the Slough game last season. The commentator said that Merson had made his team watch the video of the Rebels game "so they could see what it meant to the Slough players" - ie to prepare Walsall for the motivation they'd be up against.

 

Sadly the Martyrs (my "other" team - and indirectly the reason I started supporting STFC about 20 years ago) weren't up to it, and lost 1-2.

 

BTW does anyone remember Tommy Hutchinson, famous for scoring for both sides in a Cup Final, warming up with Merthyr when they played Slough at Wexham Park on Boxing Day around 1991? He was the trainer, and put about sixty crosses right on the Merthyr Centre forward's head in the warm-up, despite driving sleet.

 

Both teams were in the Conference then. I've a feeling Mark West was playing for us, unlikely though it seems.
