It was tongue-in-cheek there. I dont think it would make Margate fans look much better in the Councils eyes.

I dont plan on organising any protest against the Turner Contemporary. Im still in favour of the TC. I am open to persuasion though.

For those interested in such a protest make sure the problem is with the Turner Contemporary and not the Council. Keep it clean. Also dont hold a protest until all other options are used. Theres more than one way to skin a cat with this one.

I can see you know whats coming next James!

IF a demo is arranged it wont be until AFTER the time allowed for the petition has elapsed as the amount of signatures will determine whether there will be any demo or not on this subject. Should that occur it will be aimed at whoever has had a hand in this from the bottom right up to the top & if that includes the council,as it does, then they will get the full force of the peoples voice too. This action now starting to happen has nothing to do with football club or its fans.I have highlighted the petition address on here purely as a starting point & no doubt you will hear & see more about this action taking place, in the local press shortly.Things are now going to escalate as its about time the voice of the people(other than tory folk & James)was heard more LOUDLY.Everyone has huffed & puffed on this subject but now it is going to get its FULL airing.

This is ME, Cookie, a margate person, against spending obscene money on a wasted building.I contribute to the council therefore I am entitled to speak out.Again & apologies for starting it off on here but that can be ignored because the link will be notified to the public shortly & the fact that its on here has no bearing on the footballing side of things apart from the fact that its on our forum.

If others are aggrieved at this Centre then please sign & vent your disapproval with a signature. Its not much to ask! After the week-end the link & address will be known without the help of this forum. It can then be deleted altogether and we will see how things go from there.

Looks like everyone really wants this thing then despite their objections. Only 3 signatures,4 if you include mine. I can understand that lots of people will want to actuallly see this thing being built, only then to be able to say "we told you so". Something like that is in the back of my mind too. However we must also think of the vast amount of money that will have been wasted along the way. This is the point of this petition,to save that money for something else.Even if Thanet cant have the money for other things then it should go to another town where it will be used in a proper fashion.Just think of that £1.5m (upkeep) yearly bill/loss that we wont have to endure through our council tax, because ultimately someone will have to pay this and be sure some of it will be coming out of our pockets.Lets face it somewhere along the line we ARE paying for it already.Still, with more coverage soon of this petition, more signatures will hopefully be aqcuired but in the meantime,if you are still against the T.C then please sign. It dosent cost you a penny to do so & just think of what will be saved by not going on this journey of madness. I doubt this will stop it going ahead, though that IS the intention of this petition but at least we are voicing our dissatisfaction of it.

Thank you.If you know of anyone who wants to sign please refer them to the "THANET LIFE" website ( thanetlife.com ) from now on as it will be on there once it disappears from view on this forum.

Thanks

Well things are hotting up it seems. I would just like to thank all those many people that came up to me on Saurday at the game to show their solidarity on this matter. I am attempting to get a better link to the petition but in the meanwhile if you would like to sign please do so on the link above.I have been inundated with support on this and it is advised that those that cant get onto a pc should drop me a line & those letters of support will be put towards those sugnatures already made. At present the tally of signatures is only 49 but its still rising & considering a large majority do not possess a PC. this figure isnt as bad as it may seem. With the 6 months being put on for this petition initially am sure that figure wilL rise considerably before it comes to an end. Again many many thanks for the support being shown. Its just unbelievable the amount of people who wish this venture to cease. THANK YOU!!

NB. For those that are concerned that this O/T is on this footballing forum may I state here & now that after this post it will be left to dissapear from your view in time as no other mention of it will be made on here.Occasionally I may update you on its progress but thats all.

I have signed, Tony. Not because I want TDC to pump shedloads of cash into Margate FC, as you appear to be sorting out your off field problems slowly but surely by yourselves.

As a Kent Council taxpayer, I can think of better things for KCC to spend money on - better schools, infrastructure (have you tried driving through Medway recently??) flood defences, reservoirs, busses. The list goes on.

And they choose to waste £30M+ on a carbunckle that nobody wants, nobody will visit, and will probably fall victim to the first major storm that hits it.

My point exactly Gary. This amount is a ludicrous amount to paying and even if we dont see it someone somewhere should. Thanks for your support on this and many other items throughout the last 3 years which include the club. Oops, sorry everyone I said I wouldnt bombard you anymore on this but I was forced into agreeing with Gary.I will try harder not reply to obvious, well meaning, factual & truthful posts.

I think that mutual support for things like petitions against monstrosities such as the Turner centre and Paul Scally's planned move to Ebbsfleet transcend inter club rivallry.

We obviously all want the best for our clubs, and know that the club we support (especially Fleet) are the best team in Kent.

However, this is a good area in which to have grown up debates, without having to resort to the yah, boo tactics apparent at other clubs.

But I still DO NOT like Sam Sodje!!

I am under the understanding that the money is "ring-fenced". That means that if the money doesnt go to the Turner Contemporary, the money wont go to Thanet. The money is for that project and that project only. It isnt for general regeneration. Nor is it for education, health or transport or anything else. Its just for the project.

Ring-fencing isnt unusual. In fact its a very normal and typical thing. Halt the Turner Contemporary and the money will leave Thanet. Dreamland wont get the money and the money wont go towards improving the Old Town.

As this is a KCC funded project the funds would never go back to Thanet. With only part funding in place it would be up to the KCC to raise the money from "other" sources therefore being from reserves, increase in the county rates or borrowed at high interest rates and paid back over many years through the rates system.

Maybe if our County Councillors would consider a gesture of giving up their allowances (not their out of pocket expenses) the money for the project would be ready inside 2 years

Sorry but forced again on me by James this time. It is known about the money not going to other resources though it is for arts & LEISURE so in the end it may be made available elswhere in Thanet. If not, then why should we have to foot the yearly £1.5m bill that this is going to come with it.We WILL suffer in our pockets if we arent already doing so. Let some other town have it & the expense that comes with it. Its not our problem then is it?..Or is it? My petition is against both the building & where it stands, but mostly because of the costs being rattled up.. There is no guarantee this cost wont rise even further.Theres no guarantee that the sponsors will come forward to ever pay this building off either. In the meantime costs are going up.£30m for an arts centre is way way over the top no matter where it is and it shouldnt in my view be allowed..ANYWHERE. Someone somewhere has added interest in this project and its not for the good of the community I bet!

Its NOT the answer to a dwindling town like ours.It will NOT revitalise it,it will NOT provide jobs enough to make a difference to the dole queue & will almost certainly,no sorry,WILL certainly end up to be a white elephant. If this does go ahead as it proberbly will anyway at least we have it in writing that the people didnt want it & that they were warned. Then they will be made accountable for their lack of foresight.

Now stop making me reply ,though its always good to be able to tell a politician where he's going wrong, regardless of whether he or she takes heed.

It dosent really need a brain anyway to be able to see where this is heading. Lets face I can see where its going & I dont think I'm too far out.

No doubt you will come back with an reply on this yet again as politicians always seem to manage to do. No disrepect to you here personally James here but you do seem hell bent on fighting their corner.
