Oi Rob! 'The Sudbury Observer'.

Hi Rob. Are you still on the staff? I thought that this is the football thread.

I ventured on to the general thingy one and I had to smile at the extract from the Sudbury Crow or whatever it's called.

In an interview with Sudbury manager, Keith Martin, it says:

'He revealed the players relaxed [before the Walton & Hersham cup-tie] with a meal and a game of snooker at his new home. "Some were a bit nervous so we just relaxed. I didn't mention the game until 10 minutes before kick-off".'

I have a picture in my mind of Keith at Martin Towers prior to the game.

"Oh my goodness chaps [or something to that effect]. My watch must have stopped. Don't panic. It's 10 to 3. We'll have to leave it with the last red on the table. We've got to get to the ground. The cup game starts in ten minutes. Bring the ball, someone."

It's not just the St Albans Observer, then. Where do these people dream up this stuff? Perhaps they cut their teeth on The Beano.

Is The Duchess a newspaper mogul as well now, then?

Have you noticed that, save for the reference to the specific teams, of course, it could be the same chap who ghost writes the stuff from The Duo in The Observer. Perhaps there is one person who syndicates non league football club Managers comments to all of the provincial press throughout the U.K. and invites the local editor to fill in the blank spaces.

"We will be giving them the respect that they deserve but I'm more interested in how our lads play on the day. There are no easy games at this stage of the F.A.Cup. There is no pressure, I'll just tell them to go out and enjoy the atmosphere. Every player dreams of running out at Wembley.... err... Cardiff in the greatest competition in football."

That would explain it.
