Stimmo Reveals His Secrets

in a BBC artical that can be found here it says

Stimson attributes the club's phenomenal success to the decision to go full-time while still in the Ryman Premier League as well as hard work and and a deliberate policy of signing young players.

"When I took over we had a lot of journeymen and they didn't want to run around and they had a part-time attitude,"

money helps, but players like hooper, thurgood, eyre, slabber, didnt go there for the money, because they wanted to play for the gaffer, hooper was there as a youngster, he got offered deals at bigger clubs but chose to stay and play for the manager who gave him his break, thurgood was recommended to stimmo after southend couldnt offer him a deal, eyre and slabber he knew from spurs and they are two players who had options to go to championship clubs, i'm no grays supporter but any football fan can but only admire how well they've done, no disrespect to canvey but when youre own results arent going the way they should, dont knock another essex team when theyre doing well, we all know money is a factor, kingy isnt exactly poor is he???? why doesnt he spend some reddies in bringing top notch players in????

Think you've got to admire Stimpson for the way he manages.

He has certainly grabbed his managerial opportunity and has set his stall out for bringing on and introducing talented young players - whether or not they started elsewhere is irrelevant.

As for knocking other Essex clubs - yes your right, we shouldn't - but it's Grays so there has to be an exception

Yep, the old boys Stimson & Tilson aren’t doing a bad job at the moment.

Can't go full time on a crowd of 350, or even 750 a week. We need a plan to double this before we even consider going fulltime. Also I think you'll probably find the the Conference wage capping effectively prevents us from going fulltime with our crowds unless we increase prices to Tottenham levels, so that's that.

yeah we taught em everything they know.. grays pay big wages but stimmo has directed that wad in the right direction and the results are plain to see.. i dont think 'stimmos grays' team has beaten canvey yet.. i doubt that record will see the year out but untill then fk off stimmo.. you'll never beat the canvey!!

By making the right decision to go full time and making a big impact in their first season they have gained more supporters and additional exposure from the likes of the BBC. Lets not forget that their crowds were still poor at the end of their championship run.

The overall figure is also probably made up of bigger away crowds due to their league position and the novelty of a new ground.

At the end of the day they have used some good judgement.

Would be interesting to see if their crowds increase further if they gained promotion into the league or if they suddenly dropped if they started to struggle.

We seem to suffer with fickled fans and I'm sure they will to if the circumstances were right.........

As much as I hate Stimson I have to admire what he has done at Grays.

Its all very well having a bit of money but you have to use it wisely which he has.

It has certainly helped them being fulltime when they went into the conference and I expect them to win the Conference this season, there is no real outstanding team in the Conference this season and I can't see anyone catch them.

Not sure how they will be allowed in the League with that ground but my guess is they may well be allowed in providing they get their ground up to Leagu standard within a few years

It was my impression that Grays were only getting 200 to 300 at the time they went Full Time. Whats that old saying 'You have to speculate to accumulate' or words to that effect. Hornchurch had low attendances until they went full time and started getting good results, the fact that the club offered free coaching also helped to attract their current supporter base!!

my wish is to see more people like Stimson changing the mentality of non-league football in england.he is proving that only hard work on a training pitch and having the right kind of youngsters that want make a name for themselves is the right formula.the bubble might eventually burst because the team success will outgrown the club or Stimson will be offered a better job somewherelse(i hope not because i like fairy tales stories).just a question for everyone at Canvey:how many journeymen Canvey has in the squad?give an honest reply and that will explain the different position the two clubs are on the tables

Whatever you say about Grays and Stimmo, he has totally changed the attitude of the club. In the old day Grays used to be a typical hoof ball club especially under Craig Edwards. Whatever you say about them they are an excellent footballing side and play entertaining attacking football.

Would love to have the likes of Thurgood at Canvey.

Have you seen them play yet YELLOW ?

They obviously must be a very good side as the League Table does suggest. Let us see as time goes by when the pitches get heavy and young legs get kicked week in, week out and the nasty [****!!****]'s in this league start getting the hump and orders from the gaffer say mark him out which also means get physical !!

I have a great respect for guts and determination and Grays will need heeps to win this league.
