Right, I have had this checked out for confirmation purposes & I have to admit to being without the updated facts. The laws have recently been changed & I find myself embarrassed not to have updated myself with them.The new law is as follows:

 

"Handball is only a red card offence if it denies a clear goalscoring opportunity regardless of the player. Otherwise it's a caution".

 

In reality it will still be down to the refs immediate discretion and interpretation of such an incident despite the above.

 

Further to this I must say that if the keeper does handle outside the area the chances of it being a clear cut chance for the opposition would be high,something like 80% in favour.So it is as was mentioned by some of you.However as a referee it will still be down to his judgement as to which card he gives. Hope thats cleared that up once & for all.Thank you all for pointing it out to me & now that I have confirmation I will think twice before I dismiss immediately again. However as we all know refs dont always have that few seconds to make a decision.Decisions are more or less made instantly. Apologies to those I doubted.I stand corrected.

Incidentally, no-one has mentioned that the opponents showed us a lot of respect. Our forwards were man-marked and for the last 5 mins Braintree did nothing but try to hold the ball in the corners to preserve their lead.

I guess the respect was for guarding three points after a very hectic week, where Iron won at Crawley in the cup, then had a local derby with Swifts which we won well, then of course yourselves renowned for not giving much away. We were due a negative reaction, I hope yesterday was it, but we hung on for the three points. Margate are a club/side with considerable potential we respect you ok but safety first is always the best policy when you're only just ahead with five to go. Not much in that policy for the oppo fans, even some home fans had a grumble about not going for the second as well. Hope you guys enjoyed your visit to our decent ground (apart from the annoying kids, risking getting themselves hurt).

hello, just got internet back up.

 

Saturday was awful, prob dont care of heard a million times but there keeper, and no 2 should have been sent off. hasim didnt do much to warrant a sending off, borg should have been sent to stands for his actions too. terrible terrible ref, nice sodje lino though.

 

braintree were a bunch of divers, i have my commemorative poster up to remind me never to go back!

 

good luck saturday lads, hope we play a team wanting to play football and not spend most of the time V05ing it up

I was just a few feet away from the keeper incident and I was yelling for him to be sent off, but within the laws of the game I do not think that a red card would have been correct. His momentum took him out of the area by the goal line and he did not prevent a goal scoring chance. The referee was awful. Braintree number 2 should have been sent off for swinging a punch.

Very pleased with Warren Ryan effort and enthusiasm. JK the same as ever, good and bad. Bill Edwards Mr dependable at the back.
