While queuing at the newsagent for my copy of "Gavin Henson: I Am A Legend In A Short Lifetime, Volume 3", my eye was attracted to the St Albans Observer and my memory of this thread was jogged. Page 26, a new feature called 'In The Spotlight'. It's one of those 'I'll ask you 15 questions and you give short answers to each' pieces. It could have been copied from last season's matchday programme when Hertblue did that fascinating and innovative series of 'conversations' with each of t'lads.

No favourite holiday destination or music on the car's CD from Gibbo unfortunately, but the first two records that he bought were the LPs [whatever an 'LP' is] 'Stand Up' by Jethro Tull and 'Ahead Rings Out' by Blodwyn Pig. His favouriute pub is the Farriers Arms; restaurant is Buon Amici and he likes curries. The last book that he read was Deception Point by Dan Brown.

He misses The Mighty Saints when he is away and his favourite T.V programme is Spooks [which is keenly followed by my No. 1 son, out of interest. I watched it once and thought it was a dry, comedy spoof, wrongly as it turned out.]

Two interesting Q&As are worthy of full reproduction, in a manner of speaking:

Q. "What would you change about the City (of St Albans)?"

A. "I would like to do something with the roads but I really think that the City needs a new football ground in a more suitable area."

Q. "If you could be anyone for the day, who would it be?"

A. "Colin Toms".

No. Not really. I made that answer up just to get your attention. Gibbo actually repied:

"If I could be anyone for the day it would probably be the President of the United States as he is undoubtedly the most powerful man on Earth. One day would be enough though."

Hmmnn. I think I know what you're getting at Zealster. I'm not sure that I would want to be in Dubbya's shoes for a second. The Pope could be argued to be more powerful in any event. A different sphere, of course. And a different definition of power.

When reading an item like that, it's hard to resist asking myself what I would answer to some of that stuff.

Q "If you could be anyone for the day, who would it be?" A. "I've always wanted to be a man who operates a circular stop/go sign at roadworks. £100,000 a year and I could just contemplate mankind all day. It would suit me down to the ground" I once drove slowly past one of those operatives and declared my ambition. "Here y'are," he replied, offering me the sign, "You'd soon get bored with it". I'm not sure that the salary is at that level, on reflection.

Q. "If you could change anything, what would it be?" A. "I would stop putting everybody else first and just think about myself for a change."

Off-topic I'm afraid, and maybe this should be in the jukebox, but following on from AFF's post...

If I could be anyone for the day it would have to be David Beckham. I'm fascinated as to how he copes with the public and media pressure every day, and I'd like to see what Posh is really like (the kids I can do without).

If I could change anything, apart from some things that cant be mentioned on a family forum, I'd make petrol and diesel £10 a gallon, that should cut down the traffic on the roads a bit.

Favourite pubs and restaurant supplied on request <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Petrol Rob? Don't get me started on petrol.

I was driving in St Albans yesterday morning, then down to Reading at lunchtime, back to St Albans for 6.30 then out to Leigh-On-Sea after dinner before returning home at around 10.30 pm. And do you know what I was thinking during those journeys, Rob? No? I'll tell you, Rob.

Petrol is far too cheap. Treble the price of the stuff. Something has to be done to keep these people off the roads.

Hi HM.

Not really one for the purist, HM. The Irish played Palma in the preliminary Group stage of one the European 3rd rate Cup thingies. 31-0 up at half-time, it finished 64-0. A few good tries. Scott Staniforth scored 3, Delon Armitage 2, [those two babies are quick]. Horlak is back at full-back and did well. That baby is quick, too. A new Argentinian flanker called Lantrezagazon or something like that [it took two of us to carry the programme, let alone read the thing. £3. Is it from your 'stable'?] looked the part. Franze played and he will do well.

Its not the same as the Guinness Premiership.

The Craic was good enough afterwards, however. There's none like Irish fans. I heard a very rude version of 'Swing Low' which had escaped me previously, in view of my sheltered childhood, no doubt.

Don't be too hard on yourself, HM.

Our programme is a much better read than last season's. I wondered whether Gibbo's piece in the St Albans Observer was ghost-written by Hertsblue but the style is definitely different. No! Wait! Perhaps it's Gibbo himself harking back to the days when a Nation held it's breath on a Saturday morning waiting to discover the favourite food, holiday destination, and music on the car CD of Tom Beech or one of the other highly-paid superstars.

How are you doing for volunteers, HM? There was a cracking article in one a couple of weeks back from someone one here, as I recall. There was a rumour that Rushden & Diamonds were interested in t'lad for their matchday programme but they couldn't agree personal terms, apparently.

Although we have a small squad, there has been some player movement over the past few weeks. Colin Lippiatt gives a brief outline of the newcomers to Fortress Clarence Park on his page but I wonder whether Scott Cousins could be persuded to do a page "From the dresssing room" each week? Scott gives me the impression that he can read and write. Reference to new players, their history, injured players etc. etc. Suspended players, in Scott's particular case. He'll have some free time on Saturday afternoons at half-time or whenever over the next few weeks.

I'll waive my usual fee if this idea is adopted. Doin' it for the City, etc.

Like I said, pre-season and all that. Players coming and going etc. Herts Blue had declared himself too busy to continue pestering players on a weekly basis. I don't like to ask Mr.Lippiatt as I like to keep that supporter/club divide. If I find time after designing and writing the programme, maybe I'll ask this captain of ours if he fancies an article or two in the publication.

Or low & behold. . . you could do it AFF!

You know, Doin' it for the City and all that!

I think he has been selected to spearhead the 2012 Olympic development under the watchful eye of Lord Coe. We can always get our Captain to take care of team sheet duties seeing as he's going to have his hands free for the next month. During which time the programme will have a 'Match Secretary idol' competition in which contenders will have to state what sort of music they have in their car and who they would most like to be stuck in a lift with. You will then personally vote someone off every week until we are left with a winner.
