Letter to NLP re Margate V Wealdstone...

[color:"green"]I've no problem with this supporter's feelings about the matter. But could someone from Margate maybe just clarify the fact that it was NOT the WFC chairman who was pushed etc......We don't want any bad blood developing between the clubs over a letter with an incorrect fact stated. Thankyou. [/color]

"THESE STONES CAN ROLL ON BY

I am a margate fan and was looking forward to the visit of wealdstone last

saturday.

However,i feel i have to complain about the appalling behaviour of some of

their fans.It started before the game had begun, with some fans trying to get

into the ground without paying by claiming they were players.

After they had to pay to get in,they then tried to gain entrance to the main

stand by,again,claiming they were players.

When this did not work, one of the wealdstone fans urinated against the main

stand. When a steward attempted to eject him from the stadium,a large

selection of the wealdstone fans started to get rowdy with a number of stewards.

Stewards asked the wealdstone chairman to try to calm the fans down. When he

did so ,they started pushing him! They also assaulted a ball boy,

Some of the fans were ejected and then threatened to invade the pitch,so the

police were contacted.

Fortunately, when the fans attempted to start more trouble after the

game, they were deterred by the large police presence.however, the bar had to be closed

after the game because of the threats,so margate lost a lot of potential

revenue.

It has to be said that it was only a few of the wealdstone fans who caused

this trouble;and i was disgusted by the behaviour of these selected few.

One thing is for certain:I will definately NOT be making the away trip to

wealdstone, and i would advise fans of other ryman premier division clubs to

follow my lead.

Is this not contradictory? Just wondering <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

I did not mean to cause any offence with the letter, so I apologise if I did. I would just like to point out that some of the words were changed by the editors, as was the bit you have labelled contradictory. I do not know why they did, but I assure all of you that I stressed that it was only a few of the fans who caused this trouble. Once again, I apologise for any offence which may have been caused.

If what you say is true then it is not you who needs to apologise if a apology is needed. Why should they change the wording of a letter to the letters page of the paper. If the letter is not in an acceptable form and cannot be printed in it origional state then it should either be returned to the author for clariforcation or binned.

Well, as you say, it would seem odd that they would change the letter. Maybe I am mistaken then, maybe they WERE my words. If this is the case, I apologise - I did not mean to label all the Wealdstone fans as 'thugs'. If I have offened anyone, I am sorry.

Look mate, its not a serious problem. We've all done and said things in the heat of the moment. It would just be nice for the NLP to maybe retract the comment about our Chairman being shoved.

Why not send a load of your younger lads down for a game of football when you play us next? We might just realise 99% of our fans and club officials are perfectly good people.

I think as many reasonable people as possible should go to Wealdstone, in solidarity with all the good people there who support that club. Both sets of reasonable fans had their day spoilt last Saturday by the idiot minority.

At every club I have ever been to I have met great people who love football.

We should all stand up for that, and put the rest behind us.

I entirely agree with you June. As one of those that have work commitments that prevent me from going to as many away games as I would like I would like to point out that would I be going I would be doing so to cheer on our team and NOT to avoid home supporters. It certainly wouldnt sway me from following my team as I would hope it wouldnt others. Not going because of actions taken by a few mindless morons & to show our dissaproval of them would not help our lads would it, so who would benefit more...the home team, not ours!
