Chris Kinnear Gazette interview

Headline: Kinnear's long-term plans for the club. There's about 6 inches of it, but the main points are: building a young side for the future/has done it successfully 3 times before/more experience than most managers/'I feel more for this club than most managers can for any club'.

As i am similarly not priviledged to be in Thanet this weekend, not seen article, but agree with the sentiments ,and imo CK has very successfully this season signed some good young players.

As that is the case, why are we not signing them on 2 year contracts, rather than go through it all again next summer.

Minimally, if signed on 1 year, why not after three months once it is fairly obvious if they will 'make it' or not, offer them a contract extension. One or two may be errors, and agree it can then cost money to get rid-like any business-(although we cannot transfer list our personnel-), but overall ,there is more to be gained surely

CK had a chat recently with former gate star Jay Saunders about the good old days. You could forgive lesser managers than kinnear for living in the past, but there's not a bit of that with the margate boss. Speaking aboutcreating a second great side at Hartsdown Park,Kinnear said "we are building for the long term and are a young side."apart from Bill Edwards,Leon Braithwaite and John Kiester,All the rest are under 25." He talks about time at Dover. Reflecting on his time at Margate,Kinnear added: "Sometimes i look back and think Blimey,if we'd kept the players we had, what a side we'd have, but i've built a side three times and will build another one. And while he seems to have been around for, don't forget ever,Kinnear is still only 50." A lot of managers my age have only been in the job the job four or five years, but i've had a lot of experience for someone reletavly young and hopefully that will help me build a side quicker than before. "people talk about Peter Taylor my old team mate at Maidstone-being a young manager, but i'm two years younger than him". Kinnears love of Margate makes his task a lot easier. "I'ts like starting again with a new club except i have a lot of feeling for Margate",said kinnear. "I'm not one who's gone to a lot of clubs. I feelmore for this club than most managers can for any club".

I'll vouch for Chris's feelings for the club. He used to drop by the PA room at Ashford before most home games for a chat. No doubt about it, this is where his heart is.
