Attendances

BTFC Norway

Recommended Posts

So far after 7 home games, we've had a average of 476 as home attendances at New Lodge. Last season at this time, we had an average of 579 (which was 24% more than the previous season of 467).

Anyone who can come up with a good answer on why we are loosing home support? We didn't rise our ticket prices this season either, so why? Are other clubs in the same division or non-league as a whole also having a decrease in attendances?

Perhaps it is because Mr Borg has too much say in matters regarding the player influx at your club.He believes in quantity rather than quality leading to unrest in the team and the fans.To go forward you must get rid of him.Good luck for the season as I enjoy our games.

Ever thought that some people may be making their voice heard about the new stadium by voting with their feet? Just a thought.

And thinking about it, the away team supporters haven't exactly been as high as last year either.

And to the 'Shots fan. Personally, I'm quite pleased with what Mr. Borg has done with the team so far. The best defence in the league, quality strikers (something we haven't had for a little while) and by and large, an exciting team to watch.

You'll find out when we play you in a couple of weeks time matey boy.

Personally I think that Gazza has hit the nail on the head! The Basildon 'thang' is quite clearly affecting attendances. We are not boring to watch nor are we struggling at the wrong end of the table or slipped into mid-table obscurity. No team looks like running away with the league title, making it the most open campaigns in seasons. We are 4th in the league and 90 minutes away from FA Cup glory!! For this level of football we are one of the best supported clubs, as has been proved season after season. For our attendances to be suffering like this can only suggest to me that people have turned thier backs because of the move.

Ah the hoary old subjuect of attendances wonders into view. Ironically have just read a posting on the Havant forum wondering why the Ryman league are obsessed with attendances.......

The shots fan is entirely wrong about the Borg - at this stage last season Aldershot averaged 2008, currently they stand at 1906 - which also indicates that we are not the only side showing a loss of fans!

It is definately true to say that attendances are down accross the league (and quite probably accross football in general - at least two premiership grounds have seen an alarming slump in crowds) however it is also true to say that our gates have dropped more than most.

A couple of points about this:

1) As PHB's stats show last season saw a large jump in attendances over the same period as the previous season - this season is still a slight increase on the season before last. Perhaps we should be asking what we did last season to bring in the extra 100 people?

2) The move to Gloucester Park is having an effect, but it is difficult to know to what extent. I would suspect that most of the hardcore 3-400 support remains and comes to every game but that many of the floating support are now coming less regularly.

3) The end of last season saw many fans fed up with what they saw on the pitch - perhaps we are paying for a lacklustre second half to the campaign with some of the floating support staying away?

4) The away support has (in my view) increased this season - even the games where we've not had a free coach we've taken 100+ fans to Boreham Wood, Braintree etc. Last season we played Hendon early on and didn't take as many as that.

5) We're playing more games this season due to the expansion of the league so perhaps more people are picking and choosing which games to go to? There are always people who through a change of circumstances (having to work saturdays etc) are unable to get to as many games as they would in previous years.

I know of people who fit into each of the categorys above - I reckon that it is not so much people stopping coming altogether that is the problem, but people who maybe last year would have been to almost every game this year are picking their games - choosing to stay at home on tuesday for example!

however, the attendance of 715 against braintree (with probably around 30-50 away supporters) shows that we have the potential there. it just seems that these 150 or so fans only crawl out of the woodwork when there is a big f.a cup game, such as the braintree one, and big league games, such as aldershot.
