Segregation - Thinking ahead

I am assuming that at some stage segregation of fans will be made, possibly the Wimbledon game. Are the club prepared for this? What will be the best way of doing this? Where will the cut off point be made? That last question is an important one to consider.

The changing room side shouldnt be too hard a problem,if at all. Its the other side that must be thought over I think. If AFC bring a minimum of 500 with them they are going to want the toilets at some stage. Are the club going to cordon off the toilets so that both clubs fans have a loo each. Would fans be in close proximity of each other then and would we need a few more stewards in that case.I can see a few more, quite a few more away supporters wanting to relieve themselves down the coffin end without wanting to make that long trek to the portoloos. Hope this dosent mean that every one who does will be kicked out of the ground. Its not nice to do this by any fan & I'm not having a dig at anyone here its just something that I think should be thought about. Maybe hire a portoloo down that end just for days of this nature perhaps. How would YOU cordon off the ground so that everyone is happy and we see no problems from it?

Will the ground even be segregated at all. Just something I am not sure in my mind as to how it will be enforced. Then you have the "stands" they encroach into the coffin end territiory too so what moves have the club made to keep this area safe. Will the club make available to away supporters light snacks & refreshments down that end? Of course I am sure the coffin end turnstyles will be open on these occasions too.

Am sure "Meatloaf" will enlighten me/us in the near future but whats your thoughts on this? Sounds straightforward maybe to some but I think this will need more thinking-out than is first thought in order to keep calm and for everyone to have a chance of enjoying the game to its maximum.

Segregation? Martin Luther King would be laughing in his grave... I think its a bit excessive to be honest. Its like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. How many fans out of the entire attendance caused the trouble at the Wealdstone game?

I really thing this is being taken a little too far here. The issue here is about the support given to stewards. Why the need to deliberately keep the fans separate? Itll look like we dont want anything to do with anyone else. Segregating the fans wont help the clubs "community club" image. Itll just lead to an atmosphere which isnt friendly. Weve already heard about stewards being under pressure and perhaps not acting appropriately. This will just make it worse.

Just something to think about James for the future should it be deemed nessasary. I am not trying to rake up anything here just putting the subject out for debate. That should be a harmless thing to be able to do.

Of course I hope the game, any game isnt segregated but we will be talking,I think in terms of capacity being at the game and segregation dosent always mean it is active just for impending trouble. It may also be for controlling a large crowd,to minimise the flow, and to restrict movement so that everyone dosent trip up on each others toes.

Am just thinkng ahead should the need arise.

We had it at Hartsdown in previous years, prior to the ground being knocked down and that was for a crowd far less than we should expect for the AFC game.Together with that this temporary ground is a lot smaller than the old Hartsdown.

Segregation happens, thats a fact, maybe not here. But for the future, should it be put into action it should be thought about in good time and not just on the day of the match.

Thats the whole point of this thread, to "THINK AHEAD".

Woah there cookie!Good to start another topic but wait there. We've never met these fans and know nothing about them.Segregation is down to the club from the advice of the police. We want good spirit not to put up a barrier. If it is segregated then i'm sure the club will do it's upmost to fufill all ammenities and requirements.Remember we've been there before.

Again I say, knowing, not knowing away fans reputations has nothing to do with segregation at times. It would be for the flow as mentioned above. Its not a slur against ANY away supporter.I think my point is being missed here!

The club do look into this forum & therefore if it be in their minds to do such a thing in the future whether it be the near future or far off time they should be made aware that it is not always a simple thing to introduce.

Of course I want fans to mingle, nothing pleases me more but our suggestions to the club via this forum could be a help if the need arises.

There are also selfish reasons for segregating. Stick them all down the bottom, open end and they won't be able to make any noise! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Nice idea! Think it should be done to ensure the game passes without trouble (plus opening the away turnstiles). The AFCW fans have a bit of a reputation and we are probably the biggest team they will play in the Ryman. A few of their hardcore may be up for something coming to Hartsdown.

If they didnt change ends at Bromley it means if given the opportunity they would probably stay at the Hartsdown Road end for 90 minutes. Would this be a good idea? I think not especially with the bar in close proximity. IMO, segregate, get a new portaloo in, move the new food outlet down to the Coffin End for the day, open the away turnstiles.

This sort of game would have beenm segregated in the Conference. 1200+ crowd expected. Maybe 1500.

Our capacity here is 2000 & I will be full expecting that amount or very near to it on the day. O.K, maybe 1600 to be more realistic but still a lot of people in such a small ground. Can you all not remember how cramped it was on the first day of the season & that was only 1280!

Maybe the impending Ramsgate game v AFC will be a good pointer to any future developments as regards to this. We shall have to see how they cope!

It will give an idea Cookie, but we are a bigger club than Ramsgate and therefore are a bigger draw for AFCW fans. They are much more likely to bring big numbers to our place. And we all know the more they bring the more likely it is for one or two bad apples in there too.

Ramsgate haven't got much proper support. Don't know if they sing or not at Ramsgate (doubt it lol). When we play AFCW they might not like it when we are supporting our team as usual and if they are standing in 'our' end things could go wrong especially if they have been drinking.

If we are a family club and want to keep these young supporters coming and keep them safe I think the club would be making a bad mistake if they don't segregate.

Rumour has it that AFC have 14 coaches coming down for the Ramsgate game but I doubt it will be that many in reality. However Ramsgate do have more room around the pitch to cope than us so I will be looking closely at that game.

Just wondering where the coaches will all park. Probably inside the ground on the car park area as otherwise I cant see just how close to the ground they will be able to get. Parking facilities for those coaches should be interesting to see. It is an FA Trophy game Porka so the interest SHOULD be there for a good attendance. This should even up your assumptions Porka that more may attend our game than at Southwood. Lets be fair here Ramsgate are a bit of a draw at the moment too.

Yes I agree, I feel this game needs to be segrated & use the away fans turnstile. Anyway took me ages painting the away fans end getting rid of graffiti, tho I see they have done it again, b**gers!
