Best keeper?

Charlie has kept goal superbly this season, looking best in the league. It's interesting to see on Jeff's site who was Gate's best keeper statistically, with the top two 'clean sheet' seasons. Have a guess if you don't already know. It's quite recent. Jeff's clean sheets page

I Watched Lee at Gravesend a lot.the best organizer & communicator i've seen,he holds the clean sheet record at gravesend as well. Its no surprise he is doing so well in his coaching career.

The best Kentish keeper , no question, was Lee Smelt. Played in the old Division 1 (now Premiership). Still watches Fleet from time to time as well.

I Think all GK's have strength's & weaknesses,its a difficult call as whose the best.The original poster was talking about Margate FC.Oh and by the way Mark Beeney played far more top flight games than Lee Smelt but both were different style GK's.

Brian Hughes,Lee Turner & Charlie are 3 that I have great admiration for. All have done this club proud. Hard to pick the number one though but my preference would be for Brian Hughes by a whisker.A great servant as were/are the other two.

Smithy gets a mention but as he wasnt here for long dosent get on my list for top 3.

I never saw Hughes, but always had great respect for Turner. Was a little surprised when he fell out of favour.

 

How much credit should you give the defence when judging the keeper? Lee had a good defence in front of him during his best clean-sheet seasons, whereas Charlie this year has been constantly in the firing line. A few matches with nothing to do would be welcome!

brian hughes was good but like everything i think you forget the bad things and have long memories of the good.all said i dont believe there is much between any of them all great servants to the gate

Jeff,i am informed Lee is still at Southend
