Penalty goal or not?

Did Timmy Hambley score from a penalty against Basildon?

My own feeling about this is that he scored in open play, as the penalty was saved by the keeper, and he followed up with a diving header.

My logic on this is simple - if it had been a penalty shoot out, then it would not have been given as a goal.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

>>open play, the minute the ball is struck,it becomes open play

No - because if this were the case, then no goal could ever be classed as a penalty - it is only when the keeper saves, or the kicker scores on misses, that it becomes open play. If the keeper parries the ball, but it still goes into the net, that is still a penalty goal, as opposed to a goal scored in open play.

>>>If the goal keeper saves it, the penalty taker can have a 2nd chance. If the the ball hits the post, the penalty taker can not touch it again.

No.If the keeper moves off his line, or if a defender encroaches into the area prior to the ball being kicked, then if the penalty is missed, it has to be retaken.

If the penalty is scored, the goal stands. However, in the example we had last Saturday, if the defending team had commited an offence, the referee would almost certainly have allowed the goal, as he would have played the 'advantage' rule.

If a player on the attacking side commits an offence the kick was (last season) only retaken if the goal is scored. If the player misses, then it would not be retaken.

Under the new proposals for this season - and I am not one hundred percent sure if these were incorporated - if the attacking team offends, the correct award is now an indirect free kick to the opposition, and not a re-take of the penalty.
