Enjoy a number of seasons in the duldrums you might find it illuminateing.

Indeed they might.

Wise words, bluerat. A few seasons not winning things will not only dampen the arrogance, but it makes you appreciate the good times a lot more. As a Spurs fan, I'm well aware of this.

Makes the odd trophy here and there a lot more special.

theres spending money and then there is spending money

i don't really call paying 10 million for henry expensive

overmars £4

petit £2.5

vieira £3.5

bergkamp £7.5

the only 2 we have really spent a lot on was wiltord and reyes

we got sol on a free(sorry!)

and you will find that we spent these money on buying players to strengthen after we had won the league

my point being is that chelsea have spent £200 odd million in just over a year, that is just wrong and however much you hate arsenal you must be able to see that no club in the world will be able to compete with chelsea soon

no offence blue rat but alot of spurs fans have never experienced relegation, only those over 35 would know what its like really, just because i don't go much anymore don't mean i don't love the gooners,i hate spurs with a passion and would love to go saturday, but i have chose the urchins on saturday as i have for the last few years, don't like the money i the game, not just chelsea but the fact that prices are through the roof just to subsidise players like henry, beckham etc etc needing £100'000 a week plus,i will let everyone else subsidise them and i will help subsidise th urchins

I was only two when we were last relegated, but as most Arsenal fans are quick to point out, we've only won two trophies in the last 20 years. I was at both Wembley finals to witness these wins.

So I'm well aware of the ups and downs of supporting a football team. I can remember our fantastic team in the 80s as well as the dreadful sides of the late 90s/early 00s (Ginola aside).

But in Martin Jol, and our current batch of players, we really are showing signs of being something special.

Sure, we may lose on Saturday, but there is no denying that we are a team on the way up.

wenger can be one dimensional and it has been his downfall but the simple fact is to keep up with the "joneseys" we have had to build a new stadium(to keep up with man u) and now we have to get 22 players of world class standard to keep up with chelsea, simply can't happen and any gooner who knows his stuff knows that,i love wenger and the way he tries to play footy, and i love his sheer defence of his team when everyone else knows they have done something wrong!!

you would of loved it if he was your manager and any one of you who says otherwise is lying

and you would of loved bergkamp and henry and a few others to note

blinkers off lads!!

in europe he has been tactically inept at times but in the premiership the football at times has been a joy to watch,i remember the sh1te we was playing under graham but we were winning things for the most part, but under wenger we actually play footy, its great!!

and i can watch it all on the tele and still follow the mighty urchins

did you know that when bergkamp finishes at arsenal at the end of season he is coming to hornchurch!!!

I dont care about spurs fans, but they have at least spent many many years without any success.

You say you have been to highbury regularaly since 1990. So you only know success, then Chelsea come along, splash the cash and all of a sudden lifes not fair. Your love of arsenal is built on sand you need a more solid foundation, I hope for your sake arsenal get relegated soon so your support can be truly tested. Believe me you might find it enlightening.

let me guess blue rat,you are a chelsea fan

hats off to you,you will win everything around for years unless man utd board sanction transfer after transfer

people talk about the man u,arsenal dynasty over the last 8 years as boring,i just feel with chelsea dominating as much as they undoubtably will that more and more people will turn to lower league and non league football

The Chelsea domination will be extremely boring, and I think if you talk to a lot of long-standing, intelligent Chelsea fans about this, they will agree to a certain extent. Though of course, everyone enjoys winning trophies.

Bluerat has been a Chelsea fan for decades, though, throughout the spells in Division Two in the 80s, and he is in no way a "glory-hunter". "Head-hunter" maybe!!

I notice a certain southern-accented Man Utd fan is keeping well out of this discussion!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

i am surprised a bit by man u,but you can never write them off,if chelsea were to lose a couple of games then i am sure they and maybe arsenal would get a sniff, but saturday for the @rse is a big test as it will see if they still have the bottle,i think they have but it is a funny old game at times

my best mates chelsea and he loves it at the moment but says that he wouldn't want it be as easy as it seems at the moment coz his season ticket would become boring after march

You've got to lose games to appreciate the wins.

I'd hate to be so successful that the only emotion you ever experience in football is a disappointment after a 1-1 draw at Middlesboro, for example.

For most teams, getting a 1-1 draw at Boro is a good result.

I'm not saying that I'm happy with mid-table mediocrity, but to be a real fan, you need to experience these things. (Not saying that you haven't).

I just get frustrated seeing ten-year old kids wandering around in Arsenal, United, and now Chelsea shirts, when they don't know fk all about being a fan.

Anyone remember in 1995 when all the kids were wearing Rovers shirts!!?
