Wealdstone - forgive me if I ramble

Let me start by saying that the most enjoyable part of Saturday (apart from the fish and chips on the sea front) was the quarter of an hour chat that 5 Wealdstone supporters (some of us directors) had with Chris Kinnear after the match. We were all following Wealdstone back in the early 70's when "baby faced" Chris Kinnear was one of our teenage idols in the all conquering Stones side of 73-74 along with legends such as George Duck (scorer of 63 goals that season). Chris Kinnear = great bloke.

Let me now start with why I am posting - apologies if this is a long one - please bear with me. I have read what is on your forum and comment as follows:

(1) Coffin Ender refers to Wealdstone supporters spitting on their chairman's wife!!! (a) I find it hard to believe that we would spit on anyones wife - frankly I don't believe this happened (B) as a personal friend of our chairman I know that his wife wasn't at the game - she was in Thailand visiting her family

(2) dtm1977 says that the WFC chairman was asked to help sort things out and he was pushed and sworn at by a number of fans. Again, simply not true. (a) at the time of the urinating and subsequent ejection incident the wfc chairman was not present (B) at no stage was wfc chairman ever pushed or sworn at.

(3) SteveB says there was a tip off that things would kick off at the final whistle. I'd love to know where such a tip off (if indeed there was one) came from. If such a tip off was received then why didn't (a) Margate officials talk to WFC officials about it (B) the Police actually the ground to stop the "riot"? If it really was going to kick off at the final whistle then having a load of police outside the ground seems a pretty strange place for them to be. Your chairman did tell me after the game that the decision had been made to close the bar because Margate had heard that WFC fans were going to invade the pitch. I found this unbelievable but if this really was seriously feared then how was closing the bar going to stop a pitch invasion. Similarly, having police outside the ground!!! I'd have thought it would have been better to stop the so called pitch invasion by having police and stewards standing in front of the pitch perimeter railings.

(4) SteveB says that people said the club/stewards over-reacted. Not half they did.

(5) Hornet refers to sending those bunch of (****!!****) home miserable. Thank you Hornet for referring to approximately 120 people in this fashion. He also mentions in his post a Hendon fan being beaten to a pulp!!!! I won't even dignify this with a comment.

(6) SeasideSteve refers to everyone associated with WFC being a bunch of tossers including the players. Again, thank you for such an over the top remark.

(7) jkmaskell says "thugs the lot of them" and Veaney calls us all chavvy dick heads. Why be so offensive?? Do you seriously think that all 120/130 WFC players/officials/supporters are thigs and chavvy dick heads? Open your eyes please and make sensible comments.

(8) I don't know who Black Douglas is (but I have a feeling he may be an Edgware Town fan with a grievance) but I can assure anyone here who has any interest that our groundshare with Northwood is a very friendly two way arrangement that all parties, including Northwood supporters are happy with. The fact that Black Douglas is prepared to suggest that all WFC people who behave like animals should be banned but this would leave grounds empty is so ludicrous that I don't know where to start. If anyone seriously thinks that 350 WFC supporters all go around behaving like animals then they are deluded.

(9) Meatloaf intrigues me when he says that stones were thrown from outside the ground at the Coffin Gate End. I assume that is the open end. I have no personal knowledge of whether this happened but if it did (a) how do we know that it was the ejected blokes who threw those stones? (B) why on earth would supposed WFC supporters throw stones into the ground at the end where WFC supporters were standing?? © I spoke to about 20 WFC supporters who had been behind the goal and none saw any stones

(10) Ooh!bodyform says "without throwing mud Rambo did not make things any easier". I am intrigued by this comment - might Rambo be the steward who took it upon herself to eject the spectator spotted having a wee???? Has Rambo, whoever he or she is, got a reputation. Please feel free to expand.

(11) Legend says "so we're not allowed cameras in either? Soon we will need to go in naked, having shaved our pubes in case we tie them together and use them as a noose....."."Is this club trying to destroy itself?"

I must confess that I find points (10) and (11) quite illuminating. Is the stewarding at Hartsdown Park heavy handed and over the top???

The message coming over load and clear is that most of you seem to think that everyone connected with WFC is (as TonyM says) "the worst scumbags in football". God help you if you ever come across proper hooligan fans, either league or non league because all that we at Wealdstone managed to come up with was one drunk bloke having a piss behind a stand. What was the crowd - 706 wasn't it? How many of the 706 have ever had a wee in the open at some point in their lives??? The vast majority I reckon.

I agree the bloke shouldn't have done it but from what other WFC told me he was somewhat drunk (him and his mates thinking they'd maje a day of it by the seaside)and he probably wasn't thinking too straight. Hardly a hanging offence and has been pointed out already - a quiet word from a friendly steward would probably have done the trick.

In reply to WFC. thanks for your comments, you are right to say that the vast majority of you fans were well behaved. It was a steward who was spat at, one of your club officials was pushed and shoved by your fans. The initial incident (peeing) was dealt with well, unfortunately one of the fans took major exception and was abusive, this lead to four more fans joining in.

As for comments on the forum they are others views, some I agree with, some I don't. Thats the idea of the forum, to get otheres opinions.

The method of policing at the end of the game and the closure of the bar were decided by the police not by the club.

one final comment, out of the 700 people at the match there was only trouble from 5, there are also going to be about 700 opinions on how it was handled, but there were only 7 people there from start to finish who know exactly what went on.

120? Even including the players and officials I cant see where there was this large amount.I saw about 30-40 fans at max.May not even have been that amount.Maybe I didnt see them all but 120 incl.seems over the top. Just thought I would add that.

Because one of our directors was trying to find your chairman, and a guy in a Grey Wealdstone Jumper was pointed out as being him, by another director. Then when asked he confirmed it was him and tryed to help sort it all out, hence then being sworn at and pushed.

If this wasn't the chairman then so be it, but the fact is he WAS pushed and WAS sworn at. The End
