Kettering

Couldn't make it today, but it sounded a shambles on the radio. A worse result than Grays, I reckon, given the financial fallout, two players sent off and the fact they're a division below (albeit a good side).

Oh well, it got better after Grays, it can only get better after this... I hope. Very disappointing to be out of the Cup though...

just got back, what a aweful performance, once we went down to 10 men.

There keeper should of been sent off early in the 2nd half for hadn ball outside the area. but once again the ref and lino didnt see it.

The coach home was quite at 1st but was alright after a while.

not the best of grounds, best thing out of it was cheap beer and food and some of there fans were nice people and some of them are northern monkeys.

attendance 1,647

hmmmm....todays performance. I don't really know what to say about it. We were poor and so were they. Pretty even up till the 'keeper incident', how obvious does a red card want to be? They go up the other end and score with what was a great goal, a thunderbolt from 30 yards. We fall apart, they hit us with 2 goals on the counter attack after Scott was sent off. When he went, we lost all of our shape and it seemed noone knew what they were supposed to be doing. Jay sending off, what looked like a stupid challenge at the end of the game if I am honest. was it a straight red or two yellows. Another point from today, I can't remember who said it, but how true is the comment about Bowry "you wont notice him until he is gone". I was also disgraced with the way their skipper behaved, taunting us at the near post with three nil on his fingers, no captain should be behaving like that.

A couple of things stood out for me.

1) Why do assistant referees insist on being called such. The handball was blatant and any good assistant would have his flag up and call the referee over. Until such point they assist the ref , they shall be called linesman. Absolutley disgraceful decision.

2) Did we have a change of studs/boots with us , we were sliding around for the latter part of the first half and most of the second. Kettering werent. If the answer to this is NO we didnt have a spare set with us , then someone needs shooting.

3) Bobby Bowry was missed today. Who is an ideal replacement.

4) Why cant we do simple things like pass to feet and use our ability on the ground. Long ball isnt and wont work.

When all is said and done , the ramifications financially are huge. This is yet anothe result that will be picked up on by the casual supporter and hinder rather then help an increase in attendances.

I took a friend with me today , and he may come to the odd home game (Essex based and works most saturdays) but doesn feel as if anything he saw would want him to come week in week out.

Its October , and already wondering wether I will ever see entertainment for my Season ticket or travel costs.

What was more apparent today is what an important player Paul McCarthy (sure we missed Bowry) is for us with the defence looking very out of sorts even in the first half.I heard he was injured in a silly training ground incident. Smith had his first poor game for us and only Holloway can come out of the game free from critisism. Make no mistake today was a massive game for the club in which we needed to win to stimulate interest & reverse falling attendances. We failed miserably -if we had lost by the odd goal having been reduced we could have offered some excuses but it was downright humiliating to go 3 down with there fans taunting us! We got the ball into there box at least 6 times in the 1st half yet still never looked like scoring. Not sure how Liam is going to reverse this form for Stevenage next week.

I agree, little to be taken out of today's game other than Craig Holloways performance.

There are some players who just aren't performing at the moment. Two away games to sides who, based on form going into the match and/or relative league positions were there to be beaten.

Liam, Alan and co have an awful lot of work to do to stop the rot before next Saturday.

What is puzzling and annoying is the team's refusal to stick to Liams publically declared gameplan, that is to play it to feet, then use the wide men to get in behind the defence.

I didn't mishear him last Tuesday, did I?

If the team do not play to orders, then some serious queations need to be asked of them, and the players have to do some serious soul searching if they are to find the winning mentality.

What I gathered from Tuesday was that tactics don't win games players do. But a little bit of organisation would help.

For the second time this season we have lost all shape when we have gone down to 10 men. I know it ain't easy a man short, but we don't help ourselves by running around like headless chickens when the chips are down. There was still plenty of time left when they scored, with the main criteria to steady the ship and not concede again too soon, alas , they could have scored at will.

Up until the sending off, I thought that we had survived an early spell of kettering pressure and were in the ascendency. Especially if the ref hadn't of bottled it when their keeper handled the ball outside the box.

But the last 1/2 hour or so we were a sorry mess.

Lets hope Mr Bowry is fit soon, he is sorely missed.

For the second week running a good away support, but with results like this I can't see the crowds hurrying back to Stonebridge Road.

I thought today we started very slowly and Gooding looked lost at centre back.

After about 25-30 minutes we took control and had some good chances to score just before half time. Drury was exceptional in the latter parts of the first half.

In the second half the game was completly turned on its head. A ball over the top and a lack of communication between the defender and the keeper resulted in the keeper clearly handling outside the box. Neither the referee of linesman (who was dead in line) saw it. The ball was cleared and minutes later they scored. Once we lost Gooding to his 2nd rash challenge the game was lost.

Is it me, or is Gooding simply not good enough?

I seem to recall his other appearances were 'piss-poor', to say the least.

Truly awful result today. Ok, we're never going to win the FA Cup, but we need to make the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd round more often than we do.

Yet another source of income lost for the season.

Bless him. Yeah, and two years ago we were live on Sky and before that played Aston Villa. We can all live in the past, only thankfully some of us aren't at county league level in the present. And since when was 3-2 a 'battering'? Run along now...

That's what makes yesterday's performance all the more frustrating, since Kettering didn't really create anything for a 30-minute spell either side of half-time, until a Gooding error allowed a chance that Holloway prevented well, and then it went downhill from there.

The last two games have underlined that our good run of form was largely down to the presence of a settled defence and midfield. Now that key individuals have been lost to injury, it has been demonstrated just how little strength in depth we have in our squad. This is particularly worrying with the presence of a transfer window.

That said, two games don't make us entirely rubbish, just as the Grays match didn't either. Two small mercies ahead of next week's match - Stevenage's home record is far superior to their away form so far this season, and they seem prone to slipping up to weaker sides despite having a good record against title challengers.

On the plus side, Sodje struck the post with a thunderous shot from outside the box in the second half, and I was able to add to my list of mis-spellings of Omoyinmi with 'Omyanini' and 'Omanyini' (thanks to kejktfc on confguide - not as good as 'Onyonni' though ) Small pleasures, I know.

Two yellows - he was booked earlier in the game for dissent. So a pretty stupid dismissal in all, given that the foul for the second booking was so unnecessary with the game already lost. Neither dismissal could really be questioned. As for the alleged handball outside the area by Osborn, what with the 'keeper in between me and the ball, I couldn't see whether he handled it - only that he was just about outside the area.

'ever see entertainment'? Didn't enjoy York at home then?

I can't say I was in awe of it.

I've heard the Stevenage v Kettering game could be called off until the Nou Camp is available as this country doesn't have a stadium big enough to fit the ego's of both Graham Westly and Gazza.

Add to that the cocky arrogent Eassssssssssy Eassssssssssy chants from some of their lot yesterday and maybe even the Nou Camp won't be big enough.

This might be one that I actually want Stevenage to win......
