Nope the wording was to cover the fact that Jamie Ashdown was only with us on loan and therefore not a Fleet player per se.

Don't know the 3rd player but related to MOTD & the Fleet

 

I remember seeing Mark Lawrenson playing against us at Stonebridge Road at the end of his career. He spent virtually the whole game shouting at frightened young linesman, it was pathetic.

 

I can't remember who he was playing for though, can anybody else remember?

Sure it wasn't Jimmy Case? He was at Sittingbourne for a bit. Don't recall Lawro going anywhere after getting injured at Liverpool.

For some reason, I am thinking Corby Town for Lawro.

Not sure why but I am sure it rings a bell somewhere. Early nineties?

Google says he played for Corby in the BHL around 90-91.

And he was me thinking I suffer from memory loss.

Am pretty certain I was at the home game against Corby that season.

Forced into retirement at the age of 30 by injury, Lawrenson was appointed manager of Oxford United.

 

Didn't last long there (8 months), turned up at Peterborough a year later (for another short spell) then became a tv pundit.

Wasn't he also the defence coach under Keegan at Newcastle.

Also, I think that he had a very brief spell at Preston NE.

Thanks to the guys who got Corby Town for Lawro, I would never have remembered that.

 

As for the Fleet players / MOTD - am I right that Steve Bruce once played a friendly in Fleet colours in the Tony Burns era? I vaguely think Burns didn't think he was good enough or something so he went to the Gills.

 

If he gave an interview too as Brum manager on MOTD it could have been 4 people.
