MANCHESTER UNITED face red hot Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in a top three showdown, looking for the two goals that will make them the first club to score 1,000 in the Premiership. But United will need an improvement on Tuesday's goalless draw with Lille in the Champions League. Sir Alex Ferguson's side is also looking to complete three Premiership victories on the spin for the second time this season, having won their opening trio this term. The Red Devils have scored three goals in each of the last two games - both away at Fulham and Sunderland.

United lost their last Premiership match at the Theatre of Dreams against Blackburn, and have won one, drawn one and lost one of the last three league encounters on home soil. They've scored one goal in each of the last five home Premiership matches and kept one clean sheet in six at Old Trafford. Victory would see United leapfrogging Spurs and rising into the top two for the first time this season.

United are defending an unbeaten home Premiership record against Tottenham.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR go to Old Trafford chasing a fourth successive Premiership victory inside a month, but they've failed to score in their last three League contests with United and in six of the last seven against them. Each of these clubs have won five Premier League matches this season and lost one, but the Londoners are one point ahead having played and drawn one more match than their opponents.

Spurs' only defeat in the top flight this season was home to Chelsea. They've lost only one of the last 10 Premier League outings. The Londoners are nine points off the pace in second place, defending an unbeaten away Premiership record. They've beaten Fulham (h), Charlton (a) and Everton (h) on the bounce, and last posted four successive League victories between 9 and 30 September 1995.

Spurs halted the Red Devils' four match winning Premiership run with a goalless draw on their last visit to Old Trafford in January. The Londoners last beat United on 19 May 2001, with a 3-1 triumph at White Hart Lane. Tottenham have not won at the Theatre of Dreams for 17 years, since a 0-1 victory on 16 December 1989, when Gary Lineker scored the winner.
