BBC ESSEX

Again this week we have a situation where we are getting occassional comments on Grays V Scarborough, Morcambe V Daggers, York v Canvey and Colchester V Bournmouth.

We do have live commentary on that famous Essex team West Ham.

I have the names of over 150 people who agree this is a disgrace and I am therefore going to suggest the following action to those people.

(1) We write formally to the DG.

(2) We write to the PM objecting to local radio stations large budgets.

(3) We ask that our local MP's request a refund on license fee as Essex licenses are subsidising east London coverage.

(4) We will ask under the Freedom of Information Act for a copy of the minutes of meetings where the decision was made to allow one BBC local radio station to target another areas audience. BBC Essex is competing with BBC London.

(5)I intend to contact other radio stations informing them of the situation.

I will be posting this message on all Essex teams websites asking supporters to tune into alternative stations.

How can small teams in Essex develop if they do not even get a mention on our local radio.

We want BBC ESSEX for ESSEX not West Ham.

Anyone in an official capacity would consider you as part of Greater London, cos Hornchurch is in the London Borough of Havering, nothing confusing about that at all. The Postman doesn't care about what county you think you live in, the Royal Mail line is they don't use Counties for the processing of mail and haven't done for 30 years. If the public can't get to grips with these new fangled postcodes (40 years on) and wish to hark back to when Hornchurch was actually in Essex then so be it, even some residents in Newham think they're from Essex and like Hornchurch it once was, in fact so was the Tower of London. You only need a postcode to get a letter delivered and counties don't feature in the code at all. If you are electing representatives to the London authority and pay community taxes there, then thats the county you are in (London is one of about eight metropolitan counties). The people of Essex elect their reps to sit on The Essex County Council in Chelmsford. I know some of you dislike the idea of being in Greater London but thats how it is. The line has to be drawn and I think its fair to say Havering has a closer affinity, socially and economically with London than it has with the Shire county of Essex.

It might not occur to some but many more people live in a about a hundred square miles of the former Essex than do in the thousand or so square miles that comprises the present day County. If boundary changes didn't keep up with the changing times could you imagine the whingeing by people in places like Colchester, Saffron Walden, Braintree, Maldon or Harwich over having all their decisions made by what are in effect Londoners! I think they'd be arguing for a boundary change to join Suffolk.

Enjoy your trip to Braintree, I think you'll see how different it is compared to round your way. Thats not to say Hornchurch and Upminster are not pleasant and leafy suburbs - they are!

Ok Windmills are off the agenda, plenty of pubs in Braintree, but don't get caught out after dark, the Town centre has a bit of a reputation on weekend nights, but not on the same scale as Romford. Bring the missus's over they might appreciate a stroll round the Freeport complex. Enjoy the game, pity I can't be there (just a little matter of 12000 miles), but was there the last time Hx played at Cressing Road, we were bottom of the Ryman and Borgie was your manager. You squeaked a 1-0 and Borgie got to stand with us for most of the second half lol. I think he was privileged. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/achso.gif" alt="" />
