First reaction... doh!!!

To be honest it's one of the worst draws we could get, it won't b a big crowd, probably about 700ish, Canvey aren't well supported, even though they're not doing great in the league they are still a very good side (especially in the cups!).

The only good thing is that we're at home. We are really gonna have to be at the top of our game to get anything from this, why couldn't we get Flackwell Heath damn it!!!

I'm pretty happy with that , it most certianly could be worse ! Canvey can't keep getting to the 3rd round all of the time . Their League form aint that great this season and this is the magic of the cup ! Give the 90 minutes like the 2nd half of Hampton and we do have a chance and why not !! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif" alt="" />

Like your vote of confidence there Mr. "30 Years" . Nice positive thought there . Now before you reply with the "we have no chance" or what ever it's going to be , yes were are the underdogs and it won't be a shame to lose etc , etc , but blimey mate there is a chance we can win . Anyway why can't there be a cup run and a title push ? Not impossible is it ?

P.S. Take it you wont be going to the game then ?

Everyone thought we would lose to Millwall in 82 (top of old Div 3, George Graham as manager) and we didn't, thought a fan of 30years would of remembered that..........

Odds are against us but when u get drawn at home anything can happen......

Canvey isn't the best draw but its at home and could have been a whole lot worse...... Yeovil and Dagenham were drawn in matches either side of our tie so thats a bit of a relief!

So long as we play from the word go unlike our recent lacklustre performances I think we've got a fair chance.

Come on you rebels!!!

Sorry to be pedantic , but George Graham didn't join Millwall until the following year.

I seem to remember that Barry Kitchener was the manager and lost his job after the loss to Slough , the two sendings off in the match and one of his players wrecking the dressing room door.

If memory serves me right , 3 players were sent off two from Millwall . And it was Dylan Evans who was the Slough man sent off . How I remember that name I'll never know !

Yes

There were three sendings off , I was refering to the Millwall dismissals. I recall one of the Slough players punching a Millwall player in the face ( there was a picture in the Observer) and the Millwall player was dismissed.

Dave Yarby...right back cracking player with a great right hook LOL...do any of you remember whether it was old man Thorne in charge of Millwall at the time and whether it was him who was complaining that Slough had watered the pitch. I also remember the pitch invasion and the PC who let go the Millwall fan when he saw all the rest of them running at him .... ahhhh memories.

PS I always thought Graham was in charge at the time obviously my mind is playing tricks on me !!!! <img src="/forums/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />

It is such a long time ago that I would not be surprised if I got it wrong.

One thing I also remember was Football focus covering our game against Bishops Stortford in the next round, which we lost 4-1. They interviewed all the black players with Vaughan Powell doing an impression of Sammy Davis Jnr and they had all of them coming out of the tunnel to the tune "young gifted and black" ........wouldn't be able to do that now the old PC crew would have you for stereotyping !!!!!

Christ is it me or does everyone else feel we have lost that real club feel. Fate has really dealt Slough a poor hand in the past 7 years !!!!!

There's no reason why we should be afraid of Canvey Island. We're doing all right for ourselves, and our performance second half against H&R showed we are a good footballing side. Who says we cant bring that confidence into the Canvey game and emerge winners from that one? After all we are at home, anything can happen.

Looking at the league table, Canvey have scored more goals than any other team in the Premier Division <img src="/forums/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" /> although their defence seems to be a bit generous <img src="/forums/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

If we can keep them out at one end, there's no reason we can't score a couple at the other.

Just trying to work out when Daly will be back in contention for a place. I think two weeks might be a bit hopeful....

Hopefully, Dom will have one of his more sensible games which will help immensely, as he has come on leaps and bounds this season and has been bonding well with the team so far. Once his communication improves that bit more, and he cuts out the silly stuff, we've got a useful little keeper.

History is definitely on their side though as we've never even drawn against Canvey (home or away) let alone beat them <img src="/forums/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

Mr 30 Years . I think most posts here , including mine state we have 'a chance' which i feel also means we are also realists . No one says we will win . Everyone will be aware Canvey are a very good side . I bet your the type of person who'll go ' I told you so , I told you so ' if the result goes the wrong way . Lighten up mate .

To be honest, if we do get past Canvey, we'll know we've been in a fight as from past experience, they've been a well organised, well drilled hard working outfit and I don't expect anything different this season.

Every time we've played them though they've only shaded it by the odd goal or two.

My preference would have been if we were to draw a higher division side, Woking. Struggling near the foot of the Conference, likely to bring a few fans, and probably more likely to get beat than Canvey are.

Still, we live in hope!

(Wayne, sorry for having an answer to everything again! <img src="/forums/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />)
