Fantastic, a win! Almost forgotten what that felt like. We should have had more, as we had plenty of chances, including an open goal that Nathan missed, but we did well to create those chances, and i thought we played well. Tom Poole got our goal, an excellent finish after being put through on goal. Poole came on for an injured Hockers (why was he playing: we made that mistake last year??), and played really well. Great to have Trotty back, feels like home

Were to play Heybridge in the next round as they beat Walton today.

Team:

Brightley

Macca Pat Trott Kerrigan

Lay Simmons Hunter Wareham

Elder Hockton

Poole on for Hockton, Bourne on for Lay.

Good result lads, well done. 10 days off footie now.

Hmmmmm, not too sure about the "good performance" bit. I know a win is a win but over the full 90 minutes?

First half, our class came through. We played some lovely football but Wingate really didn't offer much. Hockers over reached himself and Tom Poole comes on and scores a lovely goal. Quite a lot of deft touches and wasted chances. A great half. Ross played exceptionally well.

The second half was, in my mind, frustrating. Leon played a blinder, as did Kerrigan, Trott, Sapps and Macca...getting the drift as to where I'm going here. Our back four saw a little more of the ball, with Leon doing quite a lot of tackling back, that I was certainly comfortable with. Okay, we did create chances (what was wrong with Nathan? Did someone put lead in his boots - Come on lad, you could've had 3 at least) and Wingate, really didn't create anything and thank god for that!!!

Okay, I'm griping and that'll be a first for this season and the last. I just couldn't come away from the game with the same "woo hoo" that most of you came away with. Having spoken to the players, the management team (and I know what their expectations are) and some of the supporters this season, it seems a little shallow to go and start "jumping through hoops" over a scrappy 1 - 0 against Wingate. But a win is a win and I'm hoping that it'll get the lads back on track.

What we really need is a settled side. If you look at the players that have played every game there are only three players - Kerrigan, Hunter and McSweeney and I think that is quite telling when you consider our recent form. Injuries have played a major part to our season and now we have a rest, perhaps we can get some of our regular players rested and back to full fitness and then season can get underway again.

I thought we dominated the game both in terms of possession and chances created. I can't recall Dale having to make a save.

Tom Poole is a very talented footballer, I hope we can persevere with him and give him a few more opportunities (maybe from the bench). The same can be said of Chris Bourne who again made a positive impression. Surely he has jumped above George in the pecking order now.

Trotty made a big difference to the back four and a nice clean sheet as a reward for them.

Should be a good tie at Heybridge in the next round. Looking fwd to it. Pleased to get back on a winning footing, let's hope we can build on it.

OK maybe saying it was "a good performance" is a bit over the top, maybe the word better or encouraging would have been better, but I saw it as a relatively good performance because of the positives from the game. We didn't panic after taking the lead, which was a good change. There was a lot more determination and passion from the players than at points during the season and we never really looked like losing. We created a lot of chances and should have won by a lot more. The 1st half was good, 2nd half was a bit drab, but we looked comfortable for the first time in a while. I hardly think many supporters are jumping through hoops after one win, I'm certainly not. I don't think that will happen until our league position improves. We are now unbeaten in 4 and it's something to build on.

I agree with jl, good performance, lots of possession and chances.

It was nice to see two of last seasons under 18s get there chance. I thought both played well and have earned the right to be up for selection next game. They have sat patiently week after week, with a good attitude just waiting for there chance to show us, and the Management what they could do, there opportunity came along and they grasped it. I’m sure the same opportunity will fall for others soon.

Unlike Gazza I came away from the game happy, happy with a win, happy to see the youth progression. (Tom Poole, Simmo, George Lay, and Chris Bourne) At some stage we had to mix up the team and take a look at individual performances and this was the ideal game for it.

You can often see players in a different light when they sidelined or playing with unfamiliar faces, some shine, some complain, others shy away.

So all in all, a good days work.

Positives...

1) a win

2) a first home clean sheet of the season

3) created loads of chances

4) no second half capitulation

5) poole, simmons and bourne all did well

6) return of Trott definately shored up the defence

7) Ross had a much better game, particulary in the 1st half

Negatives...

1) failing to kill off the game

2) no 2nd half goal for the 11th time in 15 games

3) Lay again failed to impress

4) Hockton coming off injured when he clearly wasnt fit

Under the circumstances I thought it was a pretty good day for us. We had players out (Cousins suspended, Henty & Dormer injured and I assume Parker was unavailable), confidence at rock bottom and once again a re-jigged back 4.

I counted 13 chances worthy of being noted for us, 1 for them so had we won 4 or 5 nil nobody could have complained. It was probably in the box that the lack of confidence was most obvious - I felt Nathan snatched at a couple of chances, whilst Ross twice opted to pass when the shot was on.

As TC said, it's good to see youth given it's head, by my reckoning out of the 14 players used yesterday, all bar 5 were 21 or under...

I never said I was unhappy with a win and as I have been told (and accept), it's a step in the right direction, it was the second half performance that worried me. At times we stopped.

I wholely accept that it was a good run out for our our "fringe" players and remember a delightful move between Poole and Simmo which came about through the players understanding of each other and playing in the same team last season.

Taking that point, we have a rest now and are off to Hendon, were, if mamory serves, our season really took off last season with a 3 - 1 win. Time to get our players

Optomistic. If you read my post you will see that it was constructive not "that was a load of ****.

Actually, I would say cautiously optomistic. Considering that I've been optomistic for about three seasons, a slight dip would be on the cards. And as I've tempered my response with constructive comments.

Read my post again.

Ooooh,er,missus - you made a right "tit" of yourself there Gazza ! One of the "breast" slips of the keyboard I've seen for ages. The team may have it's "knockers" but clearly Gary's not one of them, any sign of crisis and it's merely a storm in a D-cup to him...
