Dave has it right here - you can see why the referee didn't dismiss Dudgeon, since the incident only reduced the chances of scoring rather than denying them.

And there you have the problem with refs, they complain that players going down too easily makes it hard for them to identify geuine fouls and yet in this instance if Sodje had gone down when his shirt was tugged the York player gets a red, because Sodje was honest the player only gets a yellow yet the offence was exactly the same.
