Billericay 2 Leyton 2

Personally i think justin has made a complete a*rse of himself by saying were going to win the league, and not backing that up with the signings or the tactics. Weve lost a couple of good players from last year, and not replaced them. Our squad has gone backwards from last year instead of forwards.

How long will justin take to learn that we cant sit back on a lead. Were just not good enough defensively to do that for 45 minutes or more. We probably were for most of last year, but not this. 2 clean sheets, one of which was against a level 5 side. Off the top of my head i can think of leads weve given up against Harrow, Maldon, St Margaretsbury (2 goal lead), Margate, AFCW and last night (2 goal). Theres a long way to go in this league, but if we expect to have a shot at winning it, we cant give up 2 goal leads against crap sides. Lets face it, Leyton showed nothing about them last night. they got theyre 2 goals because we cant defend headers.

I dont agree with the people last night who were saying 'Justin out', its still too early for that, but is has to get better. None of us are going to be satisfied with 10th place.

Gaz, its fair enough saying we should offer constructive criticism, but i really dont think Justin is going to take the slghtest bit of notice, he hasnt so far. Oh, and cheers for last night by the way. I owe you one.

but I think it right to expect at least the same level of performance, if not better, from the players that were here Last season.

I agree with that - If some are not careful they could be plying their trade at (eg) Eton Manor. No disrespect intended to Manor.

So, what happens to the players at halftime? If a game could be just 45mins we would have at least 10 extra points and some of the first half performances have been of a excellent quality. Yes, we attacked a little more last night than in the last couple of second 45's, but to be blunt we were up against a poor Leyton side. We seem to be getting into the habit of consistently hanging on at the end and defending deeper. Appreciate the team is very young in the majority, but at the end of the day it is a game of football. - They either want it or they don't. At the moment they (some) are not performing to their potential for the whole game. And as said earlier, some could find it a shock playing at a lower level after the chances they have been afforded by the club.

I appreciate that we can never play well every game as they are only human, but if some continue to be half hearted (half timed) then they will not go far.

I think everyone is dissapointed with last night, again a game we should have won easily. As shown in the first half on Saturday we can play some great football but we are not scoring enough goals when we are on top and conceding too many silly goals. I think we need some experience at the back organising the back four, last year we had Trott and 2 goalkeepers who were very vocal helping the defence. I'm not criticising Dale on his performances because he's done really well, but I don't think he helps out the defence as much as Gothard did last season. Also, is there too much coaching from the bench during the game ? I also agree with the iew we should give some of the players on the bench a chance. What about giving Chris Bourne a chance for at least 30 mins, in 15 mins he doesn't even get into the game!

We are not that far from a decent team, what we need is some consistency.

As a follower of the Blues for many years, i have seen the ups and downs, i am away at the mo and don't see many matches. I saw us in pre-season and we looked ok, George Lay was pretty terrible, but the rest of theb squad looked good.

What's gone wrong?. I cannot seem to understand the policy of bringing young players in and not giving them ago, surely their keeness and tenacity should see them through (e.g. Jamie Smith, Tom Poole, John Simmonds).

I like Edinburgh i think hes a good manager and Matt Jones a superb coach and motivator, but strength in depth and courage on the field has never been our strong points, and i think this is the key for us to improve.

I would certainly be looking to give Simmo a run out now he's fit again - he looked good pre-season...

The frustrating thing for me is that we don't seem to be learning from the recent matches - Emma made an interesting observation last night that Margate, Wimbledon and Leyton all made a half time substitution and then scored early in the second half. To me it seems that we're not reacting to this with a corresponding lack of organisation when defending. Margate and Leyton both had a man unmarked in front of goal when they scored.

We need a Trotty to organise the defence - all of last night's back 4 are good players, but in my opinion they lack cohesiveness as a unit.

Elwood. Looking back to last season serves no purpose; we don’t need to go looking for doom and gloom. (Was second place that bad?) We have to deal with the reality that is this season.

With respect TC, I think it does serve a pupose! Once it became apparent last season, that we were not going to catch Yeading, but our play-off place was booked, our form started to stutter and we took that inconsistent form into the play-offs.IMO 'the reality that is this season' is that we've just carried on in the same manner that we finished last season. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/pipe.gif" alt="" />

TC, surely if you are saying that its fair to expect the same standard or better than last season and the same or a better placing in the league then what happens 6 months ago is relevent? As you said, last season set the standards that we have all hoped we would achieve or better again this season. I think what EB is saying is that the form of 6 months ago is no different to how it is now thus things are not improving. Six months ago has a bearing on saturday as we are playing the same as we were towards the end of last season which has seen us win very few games. Of course there is no point in dwelling on the past but it does seem that every time we try to be positive about the next game, when that game comes around we are back in the same situation as the previous game and this stretches back to last season.

I dont think the attendance was poor, especially as leyton brought about 2 fans.

368 isnt that bad compared to some in this league. you'll always get less people turn up on a tuesday night anyway

I think we may be making different points Paul.

I've already stated that we all rightly expect at least the same level of performance as last season, I mean the season as a whole, a second place performance.

I fully agree the form during April last season was poor, in fact it was worse that it is now, and there’s no denying that giving up a 2-0 lead twice is poor, Players, officials and fans know that.

But my point is what the players did in any particular game then, will have no bearing on our next game, in the same way that the 6-0 win over Leyton had no bearing on the playoff game.

Saturdays result will depend 100% on Saturday’s performance, regardless of the previous game or games, season or seasons.

Red or Black? it may have been 99 times in a row Red, but next spin the odds of another Red are still 50/50, probability has no bearing on the outcome.

Our club is progressive, our club is ambitious, Justin is dealing with it.

Instant success is not realistic. But it is what we all desire.

Exactly and against what can be described as not a crowd pulling team (Leyton). To put another way look at Chelmo last night, a major FA Cup replay drew 379 odd with 80? or so from Borough I would say that our 368 compares quite favourably considering there were no? away fans. Yes, there was a meaningless England game on tv which could have affected some clarets? But it did not deter the Borough faithful from travelling.
