Herts Advertiser; Lewes match report.

A source has shown me an extract from the Herts Ad report of last Saturday's Lewes match which I will share with you:

"......The referee imposed his authority from the start producing 3 yellow cards in the first 11 minutes including Clarke for the offence of kicking a corner flag - although the City striker later claimed that the flag had taken a dive."

Well it made me smile. These local hacks, eh?

If I was, I would have been dismissed for leaking the thing by now!

[it's irresponsible behaviour like that which costs the paper £12,000 a year. If even 50 people are put off [sic] from buying it as a result of reading the only bit worth reading from the paper on here... etc. etc.]

Talking of irresposible behaviour, I notice from the St Albans Observer that Paul Gascoigne is "not likely to be at Clarence Park on Saturday as he has a prior engagement in Newcastle with a charity he is involved with."

[No. I'm not protesting at the ending of a sentence with a preposition. Some of the greatest writers of the English language do that, apparently. And time moves on.]

No. These hacks don't realise the damage what they can do. 1500 wiped off the gate with a few strokes of the pen/keyboard. That could cost the club £12,000.

Its a good job that only 3 people in St Albans read the thing.

WHAT!!

Keep quiet about it? Mislead the public of this great City of ours?

That would be a dirty trick ranking alongside some lap-dog who announces friendly matches against a Manchester United "XI" with an admission price of £25 (Concessions: £45) which, in reality is the Manchester United Under 8 'B'team.

That august journal the Herts Ad has a different story:

Gazza aims to Spur on Town

06 October 2005

EDITORIAL - herts.advertiser@archant.co.uk

FA Cup legend Paul Gascoigne is expected to be at Clarence Park on Saturday as St Albans City take on much talked about Kettering Town.

Gazza, responsible for two of the most talked about moments in the cup's history, is part of a consortium, finalising a deal to take over the Conference North club. The England midfielder played a starring role for Spurs en-route to the final in 1991, culminating in his outstanding free kick against Arsenal at Wembley. He then grabbed a different kind of spotlight in the final when he was carried off with cruciate ligament damage after his lunge at Gary Charles of Nottingham Forest.

Kettering chairman Peter Mallinger who has been in talks with Imraan Ladek, head of the consortium, will be present at Clarence Park and he believes Gascoigne will also attend. Mr Mallinger said: "Imraan is definitely going to the game and I would say it is very likely Paul will be there as well. He took the time to attend our reserve game on Tuesday."

Even before the Gascoigne factor, the match between Conference South and Conference North looked an intriguing prospect. City manager Colin Lippiatt is looking forward to it. He said: "The FA Cup is a bit special and it has been shown over recent years that somebody from the Non League will make a few headlines, get some attention and some money. This is a contest between two teams at an identical level and in similar league positions, although our last result was slightly better than theirs. We are starting to get more support coming through the turnstiles and if Paul Gascoigne is there it will certainly be interesting."

Lippiatt is well prepared for the clash and he feels that being at home gives his team the chance to take control. He said: "We had them watched on Saturday and I feel it is about what we do in the end. The team are confident and we will go out there and try to be positive and try to win it." The kick off time is 2pm.

Jeez. Will these people make their minds up. My draft entry for attendance for the Prediction League thingy has changed five times now and varies from 576 to 2,490.

I wonder of a special edition of the Herts Ad could be published later today with a retraction in order to ensure that no-one is, inadvertantly, mislead?
