Margate vs Billericay

A game of two halves as they say. First half was pretty good, tight at the back and created a few chances. Hockton got the goal, solid header on an excellent Matt Game cross.

Second half was pretty poor, they got a goal about 5-10 minutes in. We never looked like scoring after that, dont think we had any chances at all in the second half. They played some good football and could have won it. They hit the bar with a looping header. We on the other hand resorted to panicking and hoofin it. Still, 1-1 away not bad, and Margate have now drawn 8 in a row, so i guess it was destined.

Nice ground and bar, shame we got a poor welcome to it. Stewards wouldnt let a couple of our fans in with cameras (why???); we had to leave the bar to get in through the turnstiles, and then the turnstiles werent bloody open; and the Margate chav patrol were out in full force, giving us and the stewards stick in the first half. Shows were most of their crowd comes from, the bar was almost deserted at half time, the rest of them are too young to come in. Still sounds like the Margate fans are as unhappy about it as us (check their forum), and it cost them as one of the idiots chucked another ball on the pitch when they were through on goal.

Oh and were 12th after tonight, and 10 points behind the leaders after Braintree beat Hampton

Onwards and upwards for Saturday!

Cannot argue with that statement - First half i thought we took the game to Margate and could (perhaps) have wrapped the points up. I was really impressed with the first half. Then, what happened? - We have this knack of (i feel) sitting too deep allowing teams to come onto us - If we are 1-0 up keep going, and KEEP ATTACKING. In the first half we were catching them offside just in our half which is a good measure of how attack minded we were - Please lads, push up on teams throughout a game.

Comical part of the night has to be between the chavs trying to do their home degree in intimidation university to us and more so the Margate stewards!! - Christ they are all on the same side!
Or, the Margate announcer asking for their goalscorer to put his hand up so he knew who had scored -

Still, at least we did not lose.

As a Margate fan I'd like to apologise for any problems you may have had last night. I can assure you it is unusual at Hartsdown. The club has started operating a 'kids for a quid' scheme - obviously some teen mongs have decided to abuse our generosity.

If it is any consolation the whole thing of being turfed out of the bar to stand on the pavement has happened to me as well.

Glad you liked the ground - it is temporary, however, and by next summer the 'mega-stadium' should have been built.

I was quite looking forward to this game...a new ground and a day off to follow and the lads didn't disapoint in the first half. An all round top performance for 45 minutes topped off with a great Danny Hockton goal...

...And then the second half. This started off, in my mind, as if we were going to be treated to more of the same. Of course Margate were going to push for the equaliser but that would've exposed gaps at the back for us to exploit. Then it happened...a lack of concentration at the back, a cross, their player coming on the back post and then...goal...the equaliser. We were then treated to "route one" football which is neither pretty or our best game. Still, I thought in the last 10 to 5 minutes of the game we looked as if we were going to get our act together and at 1 all, it could've gone either way. We could've got a break.

Even though the lads didn't play up to their best in the second half, there was some great performances in defence. Dale Brightly, Macca and Danny Kerrigan all deserve credit. In the first half, Leon Hunter, Matt Game, Ross Wareham, Parker all did their job in midfield and I thought Danny Looked sharper until he pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury.

I suppose with Gary Henty, Pat Sappleton, Nathan Elder and Danny Hockton still not at their best yet due to missing the most of the pre season and coming back from long term injuries, we can take some credit out of this game. Overall a better performance and a fighting one at that.

Lets hope the lads can get themselves together and treat us to an away win on Saturday...

I thought in the first half we played some excellent football, in my view our best of the season and were probably value for more than a one goal lead.

As said, we've let in a bad goal from our point of view, the ball travelled a long way before their bloke poked it in unchallenged at the back stick. As we tired we defended deeper and deeper, and appeared unable to play the type of football we had in the first half.

We were a bit fortunate with a couple of incidents in the second half but over the course of the 90 I'd say a draw was a fair result.

I think we can take some good positives out of this game and hopefully we can take three points on Saturday.

Apart from what looks like a minor injury to Hockers, the biggest downer of the night was the poor attitude from SOME of the Margate officials and supporters. They need to realise they are not conference now and the efforts of their chav element was hilarious.

As Coffinender mentioned above, these are NOT margate fans. They are kids like you see on the streets trying to be big in a bunch. We are all extremely unhappy about this and I have been going to Hartsdown for many many years and never before have we seen this. This WILL get sorted out!I would just like to add that though they were badly behaved and should be banned, all the posts you are seeing makes things sound worse than what they were.We are after all talking about 15 or so 14-15 yr olds out of 807 that attended. Still very bad behaviour but not that bad. We are trying to keep this a family club and thats what its always been. Tonight was a dissappointment because of these idiots.

I went down that end in the first half and stood amongst you all and I experienced what you did and spoke to the steward to get them out and get an announcement on the P.A. for those down there giving it all,to behave. This was done I believe.

On behalf of all the REAL fans here apologies. You were unfortunate tonight in that it was you here and not some other club, when these morons decided to turn up.Please be assured this is one of the friendliest clubs around and because of that we feel even more let down by these youths and gives us all a bad name.We are not used to this kind of thing.Apologies again to you all.It wont happen again I can assure you!

But thats our problem now and not yours so enjoy the rest of the season as we look for that elusive

2nd win we are getting closer to getting.

Sometime soon we will have a BIG win.Its just around the corner so keep your eyes peeled on our future results.Nice seeing you all here.

I didnt see any damage. If I had I would have seen them out of the ground personnally.I was one amongst many true fans who helped get the ground looking good so therefore I have a special interest in keeping it that way.You obviously didnt see all that they did during the first half then.

Maybe enough has been said on this now as any of those that we are talking about that read posts on the forums will undoubtedly find it all a major boost for their tiny ego's..As long as this dosent re-occur this should really be put to bed now.

Ask DAN Sampsford why he didnt say hi! Bet you I was probably standing next to him without knowing it.Sorry we didnt get to say hello Dan.

I don’t see what the issue was last night and the need for Cookie and Coffin Ender to make an apology. The only thing you could complain about was the guy that threw the second ball on the pitch when you were attacking. I’m sure they didn’t do it on purpose and you were never sure you were going to score anyway. The biggest problem with your club is the Committee who employ the stewards and enforce the rules down to the n degree and are totally inflexible.

As previously mentioned the Billericay team and supporters were not made to feel very welcome from the moment they arrived. Examples:

The early supporters were let into the bar and then ushered out without finishing their drinks to pay when the turnstiles were not even open.

The team were made to wait outside for 15 minutes

Two supporters were not allowed to bring camera into the ground and then a Margate supporter is seen using a camera in the bar. (Although there was a change of heart after a while)

The need for a steward in the bar looking at the away fans all the time.

The turnstiles closed 5 minutes after kick-off and a supporter who had rushed from London on the train had to wait until someone could bring change to the gate.

Warning the Billericay supporting about kicking the advertising hoarding but the home supporters were free to do what they like in the second half.

I think you have a decent setup at Margate but you have come to the realisation that you are not in the conference anymore. The level of stewarding is the most I’ve seen at this level and were totally ineffective if you thing you had a problem with the chavs. We had an issue last season with a few kids around the same age and handled it without it getting out of hand. Home in on the rules that will make it better for all supporters home and away not annoy people by stopping them bringing camera’s into the ground.

I'm with you cookie, bring back some good ol'e fashioned discipline. A good cuff around the ear is what they need, and where do they get all this money from?

We have the same problem at Billericay, herds of the damn blighters rampaging through the turnstiles at a £1 a go, I have to queue to get my Bovril now...there they are buying burgers, sausages, crisps and coke, shouting and laughing, dropping chips all over the place., they have a right royal time larking around. Not one of them has a club Blazer.

And some of them smoke

I've written to the Chairman’s wife about it.

Any way, good luck to Margate for the rest of the season, and thank you for your kind words, you look after yourself cookie.

Nope...I like spiders, they eat those [****!!****] daddy long legs that were about last week!!!

It's the chavs that I want to pull the legs off. Anyway, you lot up there have the right equipment. Tie one leg to one tractor, another leg to another tractor, drive them in opposite directions...bob's yer uncle...

Hmmm...Is there a benefit being a Braintree supporter?

Dilbert.I take in all that you have said and it is good that these things are spoken of. Without complaints things drag on and on in the same manner and in the cases you present it will do no good to our fine reputation thus far if we dont address them.

I will have a word about the things you mention to an official and see what can or cant be done. Obviously I am but a meagre fan and have no clout but if someone dosent speak up then nothing will change.Am sure at the next meeting with club officials others too will bring up some of the matters that you talk of.

Just to clarify something.Entrance to the bar is something they do before the gates open, for early arrivals. When time comes for the gates to open we are all ushered to the turnstyles to pay the entrance fee.If you stay in the club and those doors inside the clubhouse leading to the ground open then its free for all, literally.Maybe someone on that door could collect admission too.Something else to talk over. Its sad that the gates weren't open immediately but thats something else that will be brought up at the next meeting. As for cameras I find it absurd not to allow cameras in.It is allowed with other people and I see no reason why this should not apply to others.

p.s. Not being in the conference anymore has nothing whatsoever to do with any of this as well you know.

Actually, your chairman made us quite welcome at the bar...well, he came over to me and said hello. They only chucked us out because they wanted to close the street facing doors and get us in by the stadium (?) doors. Wasn't the bar staff's fault that the co ordination between bar staff and turnstiles was rubbish. Our beers were waiting for us when we came back...so no problem.

The camera incident was ridiculous. A case of stewards putting on the yellow jacket and then wanting to invade Poland.

The steward had a word with us about the boards and he also had a word with the Margate chav army. It was only in the 2nd half when they had the bottle to march one of them all around the perimeter of the ground only to let him off when one of them suggested they had the wrong man (boy).

I must say, from the [****!!****] up at the turnstiles, the welcome cooled a bit.
