Steve Tilson

I am currently organizing a campaign for Steve Tilson to be recognized with a UK national honour. This for services to football and this local area to which he has been loyal.

His credentials for what he has done at Southend continue. A supporter to find himself in the role as manager taking the club to 2 LDV finals and promotion are Roy of the Rovers stuff, but it is not just the success to which Tilly is deserving of this award.

In the greedy world of football we have a local lad who has shown some old community pride which we as local supporters understand and respect, directly enriching us.

There will be details in the Evening Echo on Thursday about this campaign and I will post links and more details of how to have your input in this.

There will be a petition which people can sign to recommend Tilly and also if you have worked or have close experiences/input for this cause I will ask for you to send a letter which I can attach to the whole presentation.

If there is anyone able to cordinate this at Park Lane please drop me an email ;- artfulshrimper @ hotmail .com I would be really grateful. It would only involve placing and collecting the petition forms but if you want to do more from your own initiative that's fantastic.

You all know Tilly so I don't need to sell you this.

 

I will be writing to Jeff King to see if he can include some input so if anyone can say words to the right people that would be excellent.

As long as he gets recognition they can award it at layer road!... errr...

Tilly's value as a manager and a person just went up this afternoon at Roots Hall in front of your second biggest crowd in ten years. Well done Tilly, by far Jeff Kings shrewdest signing and one of Canvey's favourite sons.

 

I applaud your quest for a national honour to be bestowed on Steve for which i wholeheartedly support. I personally feel that with time Tilly could receive the ultimate football reward as England manager.....!!!

Sorry to be a "Yellow Bungle", but while I must admit what sarfend has achieved is great and as a suberb of Basildon it is nice to see them do well.

 

If they continue to rise at their present rate for a couple of years longer or even sustain their present status for a couple of years, I will sign the petition but lets face it one or two good seasons does not make an OBE otherwise what next!!!

 

 

Now for the real controversial bit!!!!!

 

 

Tilly has done [****!!****] all compared to Kingy, 10 years ago we were in the Essex Senior League, where is Kingy's OBE.

I think the point with Tilson is what he has put back into Essex, not only through achieving with Canvey and Southend but by coaching young and old alike.

 

I think he has worked miracles whilst manager, as he did as a player for us. But the man is Essex through and through an always makes himself available for school fetes etc.

 

After all, he's confirmed he'll be playing in his second Park Lane match in a couple of months for Wardy's game!
