Terriers heading for Administration

Recommended Posts

This season is turning out to be an emotional roller-coaster. My adopted club (hope you don't mind that term) Gravesend and Northfleet are setting the Conference and alight and my life long club Huddersfield Town are in dire financial straights.

It seems the Terriers are about to enter Administration. And while it is rumoured that a new buyer is waiting in the wings, I can't help but study more progressive politics at this worrying time.

If only our last owner Barry Rubbery (reportedly worth 200 million) had not been so impatient before pulling out, if only Steve Bruce had spent his players budget on the 'right players', if only, if only, if only.

All I ask is 'The Fleet' management build my new adopted club on solid foundations to take us forward on sensible and realistic lines.

These are worrying times I just hope new and emerging clubs are able to learn from the lunacy that has occured at football league level and ensure survival is secure above all things.

Just a thought!

I think the Fleet management & board are very conscious that they need to keep within sensible budgetary limits.

We were very close to going out of business, a few years ago, ourselves - only the writing off of debts & the good nature of our landlords and the local council saved us.

Whilst it is a different board now, they seem to have their heads screwed on - last year, the budget was, I believe, based on an average crowd of 450, and this year has been based on an average home crowd of 1000.

Injuries mean that bringing in loan players etc have led to budgets being exceeded at present, but at least the average home crowd has been somewhat better than 1000 as well.

It is, however, frightening to see how many league clubs are struggling financisally.

I had seen the stories asking your players to take pay cuts & can only hope that they agree however reluctantly.

Players wages are generally going to reduce to a more sensible level again in the future - no matter how brilliant a top player is, does he really justify the level of earnings that he earns. And unfortunately, it also has meant that the unrealistic wages have cascaded down the various leagues.

Without the levels of TV income that we have had in the recent past, these salaries are unsustainable.

Lets hope that every club that is currently struggling survives, but I fear there may be one or two casualties to come. Perhaps that might snap the league into action over re-structuring?

How things can change.

It wasn't that long ago that Town were on the brink of the Premiership, but they sold Marcus Stewart and sadly things have gone downhill ever since.

Good luck to everyone at the McAlpine, and here's hoping you get a money spinning draw in the FA Cup, something like oh Gravesend & Northfleet (A) <img src="/forums/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Dave

An FA Cup visit to Stonebridge Road to play the might Fleet would be a dream come true for many Town fans.

But wait a minute.................

The Reds are on fire and given our current situation we could do without an early exit. Progession in the FA Cup would be a godsend to us. So, while it would be great to play each other, an easy route to the third round is much preferred.

Sorry to hear about the Terriers financial problems BB, I sincerely hope that the club sort the finances out as quickly as possible.

I had a great time visiting the McAlpine last year, the ground and supporters are a credit to the club. Oh and I especially enjoyed my pre and post match beer in the Gas Club! Superb.

The thought of going across to Chester had crossed my mind but my daughter is in a dance festival this weekend so I'd better go there since I missed her dances yesterday due to football.

You've got to keep the folk at home happy sometimes - if you get my drift!

I'll be eagerly waiting the text messages with the last score etc. That's if Graham S. is going - I'm sure he will be!

In fact why am I writing this? I expect you've all set off up north already!
