Ryman Fixture Organisation

Now that the Ryman league is almost becoming the Kent League, i see that tomorrow there are home games for Matgate, Dover, Ramsgate and Ashford.

With so many Kent teams in the two divisions it would always be difficult to get the fixture planning right, and i can see that when we are in different leagues that it is inevitable that occasionally Dover and Margate play on the same night, but one would have thought that it may have been spotted somewhere, and thus avoided ,that it is not good for either club if Margate and Ramsgate are both at home on the same evening as is the case tomorrow.

Funny you should mention this Michael. I was hoping that the RAMS could change their kick-off time on Saturday so that local fans of both clubs could see both games and the England game.I e.mailed the Rams secretary to see if anything could be done. His response was, however, as I thought it would be. Would have been good for both clubs to have had a good attendance each.Am sure we would all have gone to see their game and am sure we could have picked up some of their fans.It does seem a shame that this is working out this way. Would have been good if their game could have been switched to midday on Saturday or failing that to the Sunday.

Copy of reply below(Hope Martin dosent mind!)I thought it was worth a try.Nothing ventured nothing gained etc etc etc.

Subject : RE: FA CUP NEXT SATURDAY

Dear 'Cookie',

You will note from the posting on our Forum that it is Walton & Hersham who have

insisted on a 3pm kickoff, which of course they are entitled to do, whereas we

had been trying for an earlier start. The date and kickoff time have been agreed

with the FA, even if those speculating on the Forum don't realise this, and

cannot now be changed.

In addition, there is of course another match scheduled at Southwood on Sunday

(as there is most weekends) whereas there is no game at Hartsdown as the pitch

is being used for 1st team games only. Perhaps Ken Tomlinson and I should liaise

a bit more if we are both drawn at home together in future to see if your

fixture can be played on the Sunday (although the FA will normally only agree to

this if the pitch is not available Saturday, such as if you are ground-sharing

and the host team are at home, as they like all the fixtures to be played on the

same day if possible).

However, if you think the idea of Sunday games at Hartsdown may be worthwhile

perhaps you can raise it on your own forum to see if others think likewise.

Sincerely yours,

MARTIN ABLE

Secretary - Ramsgate FC

It certainly reduces the gate at both venues MM thats for sure.Maybe the secretarys of both clubs SHOULD get their heads together and work something out to the satisfaction of both the clubs and the Ryman league for league games. This wouldnt have been a problem had we both been in the same division. As you say Cup matches are literally luck of the draw and maybe not changeable. Well,it seems they most definately arent!

To answer the ramsgate secretaries question, i think a home FA Cup game on a sunday would be a cool idea.

Lets hope that both MFC and RFC have this problem to worry about for about 4 more rounds of FA Cup.after both clubs progress further in the FA Cup

I'm not sure it would make a great deal of difference. Only 20 or 30 Margate fans go to Southwood when we are away and I doubt if many of them come to our place.

i really dont think any margate fans would wish to watch ramsgate i certainly dont.but i suppose there are lots of rams fans who like to come to hartsdown and watch a proper team play

I think you underestimate the amount of gate fans who WOULD go to watch the Rams, especially in the F.A.Cup,especially with the way they are playing this year, provided we werent at home of course.I would willingly go.
