Betting on Saturday's Game

Recommended Posts

I assume you are a St Albans fan. Now if Chelmsford win on Saturday I assume that you will not be a happy bunny. So, to "hedge your unhappiness" put £100 on Chelmsford to win. Then if St Albans lose you'll have the winnings from your bet to partially offset, or "hedge" your unhappiness!. And if St Albans win you'll be "over the moon" and won't give a toss about the £100 you've lost on your bet!

We don't give a toss about that sort of money anyway, that's pocket money to us. I know Essex isn't quite as rich as City but 10 Grand would be about the right amount to wage.

You say "we" but everyone has their own standard of what they consider is a sum of money that they WOULD give a toss about losing. For example, if you are unemployed with debts then the loss of £10 might hurt. Whereas if you are a senior trader in the City you probably light your fag with £10 notes and may well consider a loss of £10,000 as being the minimum that would be required before you "gave a toss". The levels which most of us have in mind would probably lie somewhere between the two extremes of £10 and £10,000. The amount to bet, or hedge, therefore is individual - in economics, they used to call it "the marginal utility of money" which means that if you are dying of thirst in the middle of the Sahara desert you would give every penny you owned for one glass of water....

Didn't you lot have a bookies in the clubhouse a few seasons ago? I seem to remember us lot clearing him out thanks to Colins Simpsons 6 yard thunderbolt of a winner! No need to back City (Chelmsford that is) I've seen them this season and they are [****!!****].
