Tee hee - well she is a West Ham fan so what does she know about football??

And yes Harry, I agree, not many Asians go to football but a lot do follow it on telly. So, lets encourage any we know along with all and sundry.

Aaah, what a lovely world I live in.

I personally have no desire to call you a racist but you must understand that there is a difference in the generations of Asians or Indians who live in this country.

Amongst the second and third generation of asians (british in my opinion) who live in this country are a lot of people who are westernised and do consider themselves to be British. Amongst them are a lot of football supporters who follow the big teams. I, for instance, know several Liverpool supporters who, by the way, also support England.

These are the people who we should be trying to encourage to the Fleet along with other big team supporters of any race or creed.

Spot on.

I have said the same thing all along.

I'm afraid AFF is not only wrong, but also misguided and out of touch.

Maybe it's like that in the States, but here in old Blighty, times are a changin'.

You stole my thunder and of course you are totally correct.

The first generation of Asian immigrants had no understanding of football, so of course did not take up or show any interest in the beautiful game. I have worked out in India on a few occasions and it is still one of the few places in the world that doesn't really play football to any degree or in the main have premiership games beamed in.

However, 2nd and 3rd generations are taking up the game and watching it, albeit still in smallish numbers.

I think when we talk about reaching out to the asian community, we have to be realistic, we are not going to get everyone on board, we won't even convince the majority. But there is a significant minority that are out there that will be interested and we need to work out a way of convincing them that, they can watch 'live' footie at Stonebridge road , as well as the premiership on TV.

I work with a 2nd generation pakistani muslim, whom is fully engrossed in his community, but also until recently followed Liverpool. A recent change in circumstance ( bought a house) has meant that money is tighter than before and as such sorted out his nearest non league club ( Which happens to be Sutton utd ) and is now a regular on the terraces along with a few of his mates.

They are out there .. We need to make sure that they find us at the Fleet, and we then make them welcome.

Up the Fleet - We need to be a broader church

PS. I have just employed a guy from Madras, who is now in the process of relocating over here. And of all places in the whole of the south East he could have gone to, he has found a place to rent in Swanscombe.

I will make sure as part of his induction he gets the Fleet fixture list, and part of his job description will be to hand over 12quid at Stonebridge Road once a fortnight.

One of my earliest ( and best ) memories of Springfleet/ Fleetway was when you ran off the pitch and punched a supporter then got booked for coming back on the pitch without permission !! Or has time distorted that memory a bit ?

Cheers,
