Billericay 1 Fisher 3

The deadly silence on this forum since the game speaks volumes.

Team:

Capleton

Henty Macca Dobson Kerrigan

Lay Hunter Parker Wareham

Hockton Elder

(Subs: Cousins for Hockton, Simmons for Parker and Bourne for Lay)

For parts of the game we didn't play too badly when we played football with the ball on the ground, but 3 dreadful mistakes cost us any chance of getting something from the game.

Like many at the game I have no idea why Dale was dropped. The statistics speak for themselves. Dale 1 goal conceded in two in the league and no errors and Mel 16 in 9 cup and league games with quite a few errors.

We didn't start that well with Fisher having possession, but gave them a 2 goal start. I am beginning to wonder why Dobson has not been replaced by now. He again looked out of his depth, for the 1st goal he gave too much space to Griffiths, and for the 2nd goal neither Dobson or Justin learnt from the 1st goal as the same happened again. I don't know why it took 2 goals to realise Macca should have been marking Griffiths. To be honest Dobson doesn't read the game well and is too often in no man's land. It took 9 games to realise Thomas wasn't good enough, how many more will it take to realise Dobson isn't.

Our goal from an Elder header was well created and we produced some other good stuff with Hockton twice just missing crosses. After that we looked the better side before Mel's howler killed the game.

Overall the performace wasn't too bad and if it wasn't for 3 howlers the result could have been different. There were some positives. The commitment and passion from players such as Elder, Wareham and Cousins was commendable, but not evident in all. We looked good going forward, but not at the back. Parker did well again and his substitution baffled me, Bourne was lively and impressive when he came on. He tracked back, took on defenders and crossed well, why has he been given so few chances to play?

Some people will be thinking about making drastic changes, but I think we need to sort things out. Justin created last seasons successful side and he just needs to make a few changes. The summer signings haven't worked out and the squad is too small. A few new players and the results can pick up again.

Lecture over.

I didn't think we played too badly today especially for the majority of the second half. However it is still a nil return.

Griffiths is class and took his second goal well but his first was assisted by us.

I thought Parker looked good again while he was on the pitch. Only half fit but still looked a good deal better than his midfield colleagues. I hope he will stay. I dont have an issue with our youth policy, I think it's right, but some experience especially down the spine of the team can help us as I feel Parker has already proved to a degree. The rumour is Trotty is not enjoying himself at Heybridge, perhaps we can consider bringing him back.

The difficulty is we are losing against the teams that filth us off the park like Folkestone but also losing against teams that play against us like Fisher. It is difficult to explain why we don't seem to be able to work it out. We have now lost three times at home in the league this season. That is more than the whole of last season (I think).

Despite the defeat I thought it was an entertaining game and 511 was a respectable turnout. Hopefully we will get something at Margate.

Pretty well summed up by all above. We played some really good football yesterday, but we still never looked like winning because of our defensive frailties. Im pretty sure there first goal was a handball. Capleton is far too 'eccentric' to be playing for us. I pointed this out last season. Hes a solid stopper, but the amount of risks he takes is ridiculous, and its already cost us points this season. I can see no reason why Dale has been dropped. It was hardly his fault we lost at Folkestone. I feel sorry for the lad.

Dobson is highly inadequate in defense, he has looked totally out of his depth since he started playing. Despite being about 3 foot taller than Pat he cant win anything in the air, and often gets caught in no mans land. We desperately need Pat back, and Trotty too to be honest. Macca is playing well, but Pat and Trott was a great combo for me, and Dobson for Trott is a very bad swap for us.

All the summer signings have left a lot to be desired, and that brings me onto George Lay. His first half performance was truly dire. To be fair he started pulling out of the bag in the second half, but got taken off. He has to improve if he wants a starting place. I would give Gamo a go out on the right now that Henty is back.

If George wants an idea of how a winger should play, look at the few minutes that Bourne got. He ran at defenders, harried them and crossed it in. He is very quick, why not give him a game next time, or at least an hour. What harm can it do? Same applies for the likes of Simmo and Poole. The senior players need to realise they wont automatically get picked.

Our offside trap has been the basis of our defence for a while, and Fishers forwards were just too quick for us yesterday which is why we got caught several times.

511 aint a bad attendance, but the casual fans are sure to drift away now that were not getting results regularly. Even im reassessing if i really want to make the long trip to Margate on Tuesday

Didnt think George played that badly yesterday, first half he got little service out on the right, which meant he had to drift inside to get involved in the game.

It was silly errors at the back that cost us, but we wont come up against attackers like Griffiths very often.

Interesting reading Justins programme notes about Dale not having put a foot wrong, was then surprised to see Mel on the team sheet.

Would hope Dale starts on tuesday, and that Bourne starts or is given 25-30 minutes to make an impact

Theres no doubt weve got to shake things up a bit. Why not give Jamie Smith a game for example? He cant be at the club just to make up numbers on the subs bench every week surely? So he has to get a game sometime. Applied more when Henty was out injured, but you get the general drift.

In parts yesterday we matched a very good Fisher side that I personally believe will win the league with something to spare. But again we've gifted the opposition with goals. I don't understand the call for Robin Trott to come back, in McSweeney and Sappleton we have one of the best centre-half pairings in the league. Maldon aside when we had Wareham in goal, every time McSweeney/Sappleton have started a game we haven't lost. At 2-1 we were still in with a shout of a draw, until Capleton 'clanged' again. Here's what Edinburgh said in his programme notes:

Q:You kept Dale Brightley in goal for Monday's game. How do you think he did?

A:I've always said that if somebody comes into the team and does well they'll get their chance. He hasn't done anything wrong and I've been pleased with the job he's done for us.

Why was he dropped then? Bourne (who did more in 15 minutes than Lay has done all season) came on and did what this team lacks, a pacy winger that can cross a ball. Impressed with Parker again who fitness aside, is like a breath of fresh air to watch. Elder looked sharp and he and Wareham had thier best games to date. There were more postives than negatives, but results need to improve, starting a Margate, if we are to have any sort of impact on the top of the league.

I think Mel tried to clear the ball and keep it on the pitch rather than just play safe and kick it out. I guess it was his error. Their number 11 was excellent all day, anyone know who he was by any chance as i didnt pay much attention to their team line up.

I dont think we were that bad in the 2nd half, it was only the last 10 mins that they really came back at us, until then most of the game was played further up the field.

Agree with the views about Dobbo, have said it all season, he just looks like he is struggling. Cant see Justin asking Trotty back, would look like admitting a mistake was made.

George Lay, terrible first half, 2nd half he got into it a bit more, but still not effective enough, and still hasnt had a good game for us.

Kerrigan, solid, and by far our most consistant player this season.

Odd substitutions I felt. Hockers was getting no service all game, we were losing so why not take off a midfielder? Matt Game - was surprised he didnt get on ahead of simmons.

Parker - impressive but clear not fully fit. One of the few players in our team that can take a touch on the ball and make a space for himself. Would be great to keep hold of someone with his talents but we only have him for a month and ulitmately the team would need to impress him enough for him to want to stay in a division lower than his contracted club.

Ross played well I felt and Nathan gave 100% as ever.

Just cant see how the same team from last season cannot buy a win this season. The new players have in my opinion not replaced the lads we let go, they fall short of what we had last season. Parker has shown the benefit in having an experienced head in the team, maybe we need a few more, maybe with squad being small there isnt enough competition for places? who knows, but its not much fun at the moment.

IW;

They were better than us on Saturday, the difference was finishing.

We had as many chances as them but scored two goals less, yep all three fisher goals were errors by us, but that’s how goals are conceded, no mistakes would = a clean sheet 99% of the time.

I and the posters above pretty much agree that we played well. I also agree their no 11 had a good game, but for me, Leroy Griffiths is the best player I have seen this current Campaign. He’s as strong as an Ox, very quick, and a good footballer to boot.

So it’s onwards to Margate and our first 3 points for a while. (I hope)
