A couple of thank yous. No 1. to whoever took my comment of placing a 'notable mark' in the vote box literally and wrote 'notable mark' next to their chosen player. Well it made me laugh. No 2. Having voted for Mets one person went onto state on their form, and I quote;

"I voted for Christian because he always gives his all, has genuinely played well, but most of all to piss the groaners. He's not even set foot on the pitch today and they are moaning - you know who they are!"

Oh so true, although all I have to say to this person, is 'bloody Metcalfe, get him off, he's bloody useless'. (In all seriousness I thought Mets, despite one stray pass at the end, had another very good game today, especially second half when the whole team got their act together).

i don't know what eddie put in the oranges at half time,but i wish he'd give it to the team before kick off . what a transformation in the second half, and yes radders i have to agree with you metcalfe had a good game today.

This might not sit well with a few people but I'm glad Chris said that because I actually agree.

People who like to moan about players will continue to do it. Wasn't it aimed at Josias Carbon last season for example? And he's not exactly done too badly.

Metcalfe has done well this season yes, and is a vital part of the squad but anyone reading this forum would think he's been playing as well as Danny Murphy has at Charlton, for example. Whilst vocal encouragement is beneficial for every player at matches (and I have joined in with the Christian Metcalfe song, yes) I can't help but feel that some of the things said are a little OTT at times, especially on this board.

Now then... who's gonna flame me first? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I'm not gonna flame you, but I think the reason many of us are so vocal in support of Mets is because there are so many people who are so vocal in slating him. Already this season myself, Dom and others have heard people or been spoken to by people telling us how crap Mets is, and as the message on the voting form said, sometimes even before a game has started. Mets has had a bloody good start to the season, I don't see the point in comparing him to a Premiership player, but what I can say is that in my mind he has been far and away our most consistent performer so far. He deserves the credit and not constant slating.

Have to say more you put Mets on top of the pedestal...more people will try to shoot him down...quite agree with Matty....let the player do the talking ...with his talent on the field...which he has lots to offer and has been very good this season...but he also makes some very big clangers too....that you have to accept too....

cheers Chris S <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

No player at our level doesn't make clangers. If they never made mistakes they wouldn't be playing for Slough Town. The exaggerated support for Mets is in direct response to those moaning about him based on their preconceived bias.

If his reaction to the support he's getting at present is to play like he is, I say let's carry on!

I personally am stikcing up for him as he has improved so much this season... no-one is saying he is Ronaldinho but as is said earlier in this thread, af people are verbally attacking players it the job of the rest of us to offer even more support. No-one has any of our players on a pedastal (i know i dont) but as fans we should recognise loyalty and players that give 100% and i feel that Mets is one of the player that deserves that. I am in total agreement with Radders (yuk) and Ian here.
