south africa and past colonies etc...

Recommended Posts

I wasn't gonna get involved in this but after reading all of the posts I have decided to play peacemaker...I have used this forum because herr flanders may delete my posts on the SM one and I wanted to avoid that...ha ha ha..I love you flanders...the hypocricy is so profound it makes Blair look like a fckn sister of mercy...anyway I digress.....it is obvious from the various posts that there was a fair amount of Hx bashing around...

'did you ever meet a nice south african'

well lets look at that one shall we...firstly treeboy is a lot of things but no racist...nor in my opinion was the comment racist....the furore that followed was over the top and anti something certainly...probably treeboy straying onto the hallowed SM forum and perhaps a little afters from the game at ours...and a very good game it was too...not because we won but because it really was....a great day out and not to be tarnished by mad friday afternoon forum posts....

now what about the comments about....'south africa'... that caused the deletion...(and I am mindful that silencers remark about 'aussie ncuts' was left alone.)..sorry mate, but just making a point not having a go ........not so good moderating flanders if I may be so bold......do try and shape up....

in any event....flanders has received a complaint and deleted a comment...why....?

back to 'south africa'...now at the risk of being shouted down... how many of you guys have been there for anything but a holiday or understand the country and its history...?

I lived there in the late 60's and I was educated there and love the country like my own and love the native multicultural peoples and their wonderful outlook on life and their (then) hopes for the future where they would all live together and work together and love each other...(sadly a dream that has not and will never materialise) the 'rainbow nation' never was anything but a fine slogan for the rugby world cup...

sad .....

now what IS a 'south african'...well things change in an ever changing world....today a south african is a native of this great country but back then and still understood to be the case by many....'twas different....

in the 60's a 'south african' was an immigrant that spoke english and loved the old mother country....an 'afrikaner' was a dutch/afrikans speaking pretender to gods own country who hated the english and practised aparthied...

the 'african' was the black native that lived under the yolk of apertheid and suffered segregation...our own activities during the boer war are not exactly without dark shadows...

who did I like when I was there....well the 'south africans' were the descendants of the original english settlers to the cape colony and the future generations of our own and understood the cultural shock that us young students were going through and obviously spoke our language...and looked after us and educated us in a strange and frightening world that we had no understanding of......the 'africans' in their various tribal forms were the heart of the country and we protected them as much as we could from apartheid and the cruel republican secret police..... we loved their history and their culture and slept with many of their beautiful women... when doing so would have had us locked away for years had we been caught......(did you guys know that?).......but then again a 19 year olds winkle knows no colour prejudice nor takes account of tyranny...

but every young englishman wants to defy a nazi when he finds one...) ..(did you guys know that the afrikans government supported and fought with herr hitler against our families in WW2...?

didn't think so....

the answer from me to treeboys question is this...

I love the 'south africans'...I love the true natives of that magnificent country and I love the country itself...it is truly gods country...but I hate the fckn cruel and bullying racist white afrikaners....

treeboys comment was not about black and white..nor creed or culture.... it was actually funny....who does like the white afrikaner...a race that carried out more atrocities on the native people of the southern cape and transvaal than stalin could have ever dreamed of...(and the englishman Jameson under the orders of Rhodes was no better)...but this is not a history lesson and nor would you want it to be...the history of the cape is soaked in blood and greed perpetrated by all western northern european nations...I fckn don't like the afrikaners ...and thats what he meant....he just didn't understand the history nor the modern parlance in these matters......and nor did the person that took offence....who perhaps may be 'south african' in modern parlance.. or perhaps may have a family or friends from there'

ignorance is bliss...except on friday forums....

now lets end it and leave it...we at Hx are enjoying this season and will continue to do so...and no small part of that goes to the other clubs in the ESL...please let us not spoil it because of a misunderstanding....

sorry to be a bore...(no pun intended)

cheers

unc

i will leave it now as well unc, just hate the word "racist" being banded about at every oportunity,to have a dig at someone, like yourself we know that our tree is no racist,he actually hates racism with a vengeance, that is why those of us who know him were shocked when he was tarred with that brush

If people band racism around as a way of winning a pointless arguement, the real racism will eventually go unnoticed

see the boy who cried wolf for details

i will apologise for my remarks on the SM forum yesterday and friday and put it down to all of our frailties within this subject

Just one point Unc about your comment about the SA government backing and supporting Nazi Germany.

I remember my father telling me that his troop ship called in at Cape Town and that there was a lady (forget her nickname - but she's famous) who used to lead all the lads on all the visiting allied troopships in singing from the dock side.

And I'm sure that there must hav been a few SA blokes fighting on our side too.

So they were't altogether against us.

if you read the history of the second world war and the history of division in the republic you will understand it better than I have time to post it...

suffice to say that the afrikaaner states and the republican government sent their forces against the allies. The 'white' SA peoples were of course united behind us...I sought to explain the division and the culture...perhaps more importantly the lack of understanding in europe about that great country and its political and racial factions...

Can I just say that I am no South African although my other half is....

they endure a lot of resentment in Britain on the basis of "them coming and taking all our jobs" mentality

There have been some horrific gang beatings in and around South West London, in the recent months and my other half is fearful of her safety and that of her countrymen .... and then i read the post "have you ever met a south african you like"

I am admitting NOW yes i overeacted but maybe you can understand my motives ...

also you may not be racists but are still mindless enough to settle things by petty violence... to me that speaks volumes ...

I was trying to explain the complicated structure of life in that continent and the lack of understanding from europeans....

as for your moderating standards...hhmmm...well my great grannys aunties uncle is australian so I want that vicious anti antipodean thug silencer banned for his hurtful remarks about my convict bretheren down under....

peter...we are peaceful and decent folk at Hx and you should not over react to forum banter mate...firstly the south african thingy and now we're all violent and petty thugs...

try and take the posts in their context mate and please don't knee jerk reactions to what we are or are not at Hx...

I am sorry that you have a difficult situation with your SA partner (you didn't say if she/he was black or white)...in my experience colour prejudice knows not the bounds of nationality...so it may well be that any bad experiences are colour related racism and not nationalistic...

as for nationalistic abuse...well I'm an old englishman bred from pure irish stock and I love the crack....

you can call me a thick paddy anytime and I promise I won't report you to admin...

edited PS

sorry Mick.....yep it was a good game and in spite of the early goal and all our posession we couldn't hit the target and god knows we had enough chances...

as is the norm ...they were a decent bunch and crossy always adds his little bit of humour to these games...the tsunami type downpour didn't actually help matters either and I think it put both teams off for 15 minutes..after it stopped the play was somewhat ragged and in truth we could still be there and neither team would have scored...no complaints....they'll be happier than we are but we're still top....just...

just to add to that peter regarding the urchins being violent and petty thugs, you was the one who called tree a [****!!****] in the first place,so i hardly think you are angelic

perhaps you need to polish up on that education you was talking about as a literatery giant like yourself could surely find another word to describe your anger!
