Gazzette article

Did anyone read the article in the Billericay Gazzette this week by Rob Moore? Quite a good read if you ask me and some valid points made which do need to be raised.

First, I must admit I can't remember anyone wishing Willo well or asking how he was. As I wasn't at the game last Saturday all I knew was that he was taken to hospital. I would agree with Rob that it is only a game (a thought I should take on board sometimes) and where there is a major injury where is the concern? We used to ask all sorts of questions on our web site forum. Since when did we become a bunch of uncaring gits?

On the question of criticism - Hmmmmm, this is a tricky one. I agree we should get behind the team but everyone has an opinion and whether down the pub, in a paper article or on a web site forum, someone will agree to disagree and have their point of view. That is a way of life as we do live in a country where free speech is allowed. I do agree that we all can loose the point and degenerate into slagging the team, the club and each other (and yes I do know I have been there much to my disgrace - I am not calling the kettle black). If there has to criticism, lets make it a balanced, informed and friendly form and not nasty, over the top and bigoted (except of course when Canvey Island is mentioned).

Sermon over, I look forward to some responses

Lee Williams: I think it's fair to say that all the travelling support were unaware of the seriousness of Lee's injuries on Saturday - I only became aware when Rod phoned up that evening trying to find somebody who had actually seen the incident. Would have put something on the website but it broke.

Criticism: I think most of what's been said recently has been borne out of frustration that against both Purfleet and Kingstonian we had long spells of dominance but were unable to score goals. I think what Rob says is fair that we're 6th having played almost all of the teams in the top half of the table.

During one of the corners he got an elbow in the face that would have knocked anyone out. It jolted his head right back. I'm not sure of the exact number of the player, but it was one of the large centre backs.

It never looked good as he came onto the pitch by us and really looked out of it.

Unfortunately I can't see him being fit to play Boretree which is a shame as I think we really could have done with him. I'm sure I speak for us all in wishing him a speedy recovery.

yes i m a big fan of lee's and hope he is fit for saturday altho i spose this is looking unlikely. at least it means we ll have to play 4 at the back!!

i cant believe that rob moore who i assume is the official spokesman these days is giving it large abt willo s injury. after all how are the fans meant to know how serious an injury is especially when the management/physio put him back on the pitch for 5-10 mins after the initial clash before he was finally taken off.

while i'm having a moan up i would like to mention two other recurring issues which mebbe rob could clear up for us next

week.

1) why isnt rantala getting a game when everyone (except GC and GB clearly) thinks he should be?

2) what are the plans re joe baker...do they want him at the club or not?

also i think that the vast majority of the posts on the forum this season have been balanced and when criticism is given it has been constructive. for example there has been plenty of praise for our defence and hardly a whisper abt our lack of goals. there has also been healthy debate about the formation we are playing and again in the vast majority of cases about the personnel.

anyway big game saturday so lets hope the fans get behind the team as they have been all season..cmon the blues!!!!!

I think the point that is sadly missing re. Willo is that when we had our own site forum Rod and others involved in the club used to get on there and inform us of any injuries and goings on. This doesn't happen anymore due to certain people winding him up (Play Up Ricay comes to mind). We now have to read the Rob Moore article in The Gazzette and then discuss.

Would be nice if a spokesman for the club could get on here and tell us how players are, especialy after a troublesome or dangerous injury. We could all sympathise and then put the game into more perspective.

I would also agree that the criticism of the team has been quite balanced to date with maybe the exception of Jamie.
