A note of caution

A timely reminder, in case any Fleet fans were so foolish as to think that all of Fleet First's hard work is done, that we are by no means out of the woods yet regarding our new ground.

From Kent Online

Admittedly, the article uses comments that Mr. Burden made last week at the council meeting (i.e. about having a duty to consider all planning applications), but it wouldn't do any harm for us all to remain on our toes.

Scally may have some trouble finding a suitable site. i'm sure I read somewhere that new biulds in the Thames Gateway had to be on brownfield sites, as opposed to greenfield. The area abutting Ebbsfleet Stn looks very greenfield to me, so I reckon it would prove very difficult to get funding and permission to build there.

Look by way of example how much difficulty Brighton have had , and still are having , moving to an out of town, greenfield site at Falmer.

The latest from Scally suggests that a site in Medway is still an option. But it was the final paragraph that interested me:

Quote:
Paul Scally said: "Gravesham Borough Council is very supportive and it would clearly like to see us in Gravesham, as this would be something that would attract people to the area and provide an arena which would benefit the whole community."

Er, that not really the impression one would have got from Mr. Burden's reported comments from the council roadshow the other week.

Couple of quetsions.

Is the are immediatlet to south and west of Ebbslfeet station not in Dartford Borough? I belive there wa ssome argument about callign it Dartford East or similar.

Secondly , suggested to me at a fleet game that Sittingbourne was a viable site. Also heard it yesterday from a family member(by marriage well when i get married he will be) who works for Gillingham , that this option was muted about last year but never followed through.

Everyone should be wary of promises made by politicians, whether they be national or local. Whilst not doubting Clr. Burden's support of the Fleets cause, remember he was in a meeting, at Stonebridge Road, and attended by many Fleet supporters. He was hardly going to get-up and say that he was going to put his full support behing Gillingham coming to ther borough?

Remember Clr Burden has always said that it would be the council's duty to consider planning applications.

Also rememeber by the time 2008 comes around, Gravesham council could well be under the control of another party, and I doubt whether Clr. Burden will still be the Leader of the Council.

I won't believe that the Fleet are to get a new home and Gillingham are to stay in the Medway area until all of the T's are crossed and the I's dotted.
