I fail to see to be honest how we can alter this situation. To me it is, sadly, a repeat of the last time we were at Hartsdown and the crowds and popularity of the club grew. With that came a collection of new fans, well versed in the use of the internet and forums, who think nothing of abuse and sh*t stirring, and indeed enjoy it. Thus the forum becomes a vehicle for personal vendettas and dirty laundry to be washed in public. Then you end up with the kind of garbage posted on here the last few days, non of which relates to the football club.

It is interseting that during last season and the one before, when the support dwindled back to the numbers it did and certain 'fans' were nowhere to be seen, the incidents of this type almost dried up completely. To me that is no coincidence.

I agree with someone who posted elsewhere that this forum is still an improvement on some I see, such as the Ryman one, but don't see how registration only will make a lot of difference. I would bet good money that most of the stupid anon postings under silly names could be sourced to a few people, but why bother? There are probably registered members who go 'anon' occasionally as well.

When I came down for the Maldon game I spoke to a well known fan who chooses to stay anon, and I respected the reasons he gave. I don't see it makes much difference.

Basically it comes down to the mentality of some people, and the sort of stuff they enjoy posting to feed their tiny minds. And no amount of tweaking with the system will do anything about that.

Maybe in the end the options are to carry on and delete nasty stuff quickly, or shut the forum. Whether anyone has the time and inclination to do the first one is debatable, so perhaps the latter is the answer, shame as it would be.

I don't know if it is the case, maybe one of the G&N guys can put me right, but I think the Gravesend forum on this site is registration only, and you get none of the stupidity that we have been experiencing lately.

What you seem to get is a lot of interesting debates about football, and the team, just as we did last year and the year before.
